On yesterday's workshop call with @kellyclancy.bsky.social, I committed to morning pages - specifically for my book project - all through the month of September. I guess that means today's Day 1! Let's gooo

then you review them as a class, and facilitate the conversation around how to go about bringing those things to reality. it's also interesting to work with students who resist the activity even tho they are clear about who they admire and why. it can expose some important blocks to surpass
I like this idea, and then I tack on the "dream CV" exercise. so students look to someone they admire who is 5-7 years ahead of them, and study what their path has been. then they write their own cv w/ pubs, positions, grants, etc. that they want as if they've already happened

I was thrilled to talk to @bradleyonishi.bsky.social (who knows a thing or two about podcasts, evangelicals, and extremism) about my new documentary podcast, *When the Wolves Came: Evangelicals Against Extremism*. Listen here: www.straightwhiteamericanjesus.com/episodes/min...

Just realized it's the first year since '22 that I won't be setting off in April for field work in Europe. Feeling so so grateful that Yale and the Macmillan Center sponsored my research. Studying the ways people imagine nationalism, citizenry, and religion thru tourism is more important than ever!
Interesting story on Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado. His political performances capture the sacrality of both left and right audiences (e.g. gets AOC's praise, stands up to Biden, and is a former soldier with a Bronze Star).

Congratulations, Oneya!!!
Good idea! Thanks for the reminder. I have been meaning to submit something to them for awhile
I'm being reminded today that friendship is such a tonic amidst all the chaos. One friend wrote me to ask if I'd read their book draft. Another wrote me asking if they could read my thesis. In a world where everything that is meaningful can be discredited as cringey, embrace 👏 your 👏 friends.
I'll miss it too. It's such a reversal from 2016 when WaPo was a light in the darkness. I recall being so moved by The Post when it came out around that time, too.
New article from Yağmur Karakaya on how the AKP uses the Hagia Sofia in its populist strategy and "leverages the monument's history to create a sense of yearning among the Turkish people while positioning itself as the sole entity able to fulfill this yearning." Considering the current chaos, it's worth reflecting on one of the most sacred ideals of a democratic society - truth-telling - and how we relate to it. Check out this great article from @jgotzsche.bsky.social in @sociologicaltheory.bsky.social on the topic
