Made a quick trip to Paris in honor of Banned Books Week to speak about the current perilous situation in the US, at the invitation of author Janet Skeslien Charles and the AAWE. Completely full-house, every last seat — Americans abroad care.
Photo of host and three speakers, including myself, at event in Paris for Banned Books Week.

Picket Fire is a small literary press, but I have no idea how to use Blue Sky or how to find people on here. So if #writers #authors #readers and anyone related to the #writingcommunity or #books community could help by sharing this post, that would be excellent.

I’m not saying it will be her but of the names being bandied around I’d be very pleased to see Anne Carson awarded the Nobel Prize for literature ✍️ ✨

Other authors whose works are involved in the Anthropic settlement, are you making a claim? If so and you are traditionally published, are you accepting the “Default” recovery option or filing for the “Alternative” option?

It’s nuts to me that you can no longer step foot on the Columbia University campus, this place where I played freely as a little girl, which was always an integral part of the neighborhood, w/o an active Columbia ID, but on the positive side maybe it’s helping to keep ICE out.

From the @authorsguild.org re the Anthropic settlement:
“The settlement administrator will contact authors whose books are part of the eligible class directly with settlement details and claim forms… A searchable database with the books in the suit will be made available in October.”

Checking in today for a flight to the US from overseas tomorrow was a disturbing experience.
Screenshot saying “US Entry Restrictions for Certain Nationals: The US id restricting entry for certain nationalities effective 09th of June 2025.”

We’re so accustomed to easily having copies of anything. Imagine the days when a writer would send a typewritten manuscript off to an agent or editor or publisher, and it would be the writer’s only copy!

Congratulations, Moyette!

I recently re-read Jane Eyre. Omigosh the drama! Poor Jane had to work hard for her joy.

Unparalleled in its depiction of place, honesty, in being experiential (literal meaning)… The prose! It’s crushingly brilliant.

Possibly my favorite novel of all time. Definitely top ten.

This is such a good point. Everyone needs to start treating cycling in NY like a fabric of the city and not some passing phenomenon.
