Hi #portfolioday ! I'm Anna Stenger, an author/illustrator looking for work in children's books. Having worked as a graphic designer, I love composing images based on shape and contrast, then sprinkling in details to bring the story to life.

I sent out my March newsletter this week so now I’m 3/3 in 2025 and I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this successful 😂

I love the idea of this piece but I think it’s time to put this color palette to rest… The saturation distracts me. Thoughts?

The clipping of this image has got a great response from, I assume, fellow parent-illustrators, so I’m sharing the entire image here for the full effect :)

I wrote a small blurb on my Substack about James Gurney’s Windmill Principle and how I live and die by this concept 🤪 only half joking…

With the extreme volume of books that I oversee I'm sometimes able to triangulate subtle shifts in the design zeitgeist. This will be obtuse, so do with it what you will, but my gut is telling me: gradients are out.

Perhaps because within this era of gray areas, concrete positions are required.
It delights me that you got as big a kick out of it as I did 😁 thanks!
