Agreed, those underarm gaps on raglan/yoke sweaters can be VERY frustrating 🤨

Here’s the most effective method I have found so far to eliminate them 🧶🧶🧶 #knitting
How to slip the first stitch purlwise and why 🤓🧶 #knitting
Slipping the first stitch purlwise creates a neat little chain along the selvedge, instead of the knotty edge you get if you knit the first stitch.
Due to an unexpected delay in the delivery of the books, we’ve had to postpone the book launch. The event has been rescheduled to Saturday, 25 October 2025, same place, same time, i.e. Sip and Knit, Rue Blockmans 10, 1150 Woluwé Saint-Pierre from 10.30 to 13.30.

We hope you’ll be able to join us!
When I join a new colour, I like to weave in the end right away. I don’t mind weaving in ends, but on projects with lots of them, it helps to get a few out of the way early 😅

Regular cast off
Back to basics: This is the most basic cast off. It turns out a little tight, so I like to use a larger needle for the cast off row.

After my recent post showing the knit stitch (English vs. Continental), a lot of you asked how I purl.
I use the Norwegian purl — which, apparently, is quite controversial 😅

🧶 Some find it too labour-intensive — but it does save you from moving the yarn back and forth between knit and purl stitches
How do I hold the yarn when #knitting?

I got this question after yesterday’s post. This is how. My pinky controls the tension of the yarn.

English vs. Continental Knitting: What's the Difference?🧶
Both methods create the same result—but the method varies:
🔹 English style: The working yarn is held in the right hand and "thrown" over the needle.
🔹 Continental style: The working yarn is held in the left hand and "picked" with the needle.
🧶 How to knit knots
This is how to make a small bobble - or knot
I prefer to knit backwards rather than turn my knitting for knots and bobbles, but if you prefer you can do it the traditional way: kfb, turn, p2, turn, k2tog.

🧶 How to #knit rope cables
As I said, I prefer to cross cables without a cable needle 🫣, but here’s the “proper” way to do it 😇

🧶 How to knit rope cables
If you haven’t knitted cables before, it’s best you use a cable needle, but personally I prefer to live life dangerously and do it without 😎
This is how to do a left twist with 3 sts, also known as a C6F 🙌🎥🧶🔀

No, of course not. You’ll turn it back with the right side out when you’re done knitting 🧶
🧶 Annoyed by the big gaps next to your bobbles?
You can close them on the next row (or round). When knitting flat, this will normally be a purl row.

Here’s how to do it 🧶🙌

That’s lovely! Amazing work 😍
But you shouldn’t purl. Just turn your work inside out and keep knitting (not purling!) as you normally would!
🧶 Are you getting big holes next to your bobbles? #knitting
This happens especially if you use a kfbfb increase. Here’s how to close it😉
If you are knitting flat in rows on two needles, stay tuned…

🎉 Come celebrate with me the release of my book Learn to Knit in 50 Squares 📚
Come and say hi, have a cup of tea (or coffee), bring your knitting if you want!
📍 Location: Sip & Knit, Rue Blockmans 10, 1150 Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Brussels
📅 Date: 18 October 2025
🕒 Time: 10.30-14.00
🧶 How nerdy can you get?? 🤓
Most people I know avoid to work stranded knitting on the wrong side (by knitting in the round), let alone catching floats on the purl side, but if ever you need to do it, here’s how - if you knit 2-handed, that is…

🧶 When #knitting from a chart, cover the rows above the one you are knitting - not the ones below.
That way, what you see on the chart corresponds to what you have on your needles.

🧶 Knit your colourwork inside out for more even tension - especially on small-circumference projects like socks or, as shown here, mittens.

Cast on mid-project in colourwork
I can’t remember where I saw this tip, but I really love it 🧶😍😉🙌 If you are knitting colourwork and need to cast on extra stitches, you can use your 2 yarns and do the long-tail cast on.
