I would argue that their jobs are more important than the average citizen's or even a CEO's. Accountability and how well they perform those jobs is a very different issue. But salaries in northern Virginia are among the highest in the nation and a congressman's salary is not exceptional here.
Members of Congress pay into SS & the retirement system same as every fed employee. Benefits depend on length of service. I don't begrudge them that. But they shouldn't have more days off than senior fed employees: 26 days/year + fed holidays.
Israel has been the #1 recipient of US foreign aid for many years. And they have had universal health care since 1995. In 2020 their health care system was ranked third most efficient in the world. We must be the stupidest country on earth.
No, they weren't. But we could have enforced humane treatment if we'd had the will instead of just passing the problem off to Mexico. Sadly, nothing is going to get better under this clown show.
What are we paying them for if they can't do their jobs? If the rest of us took off on vacation whenever we didn't feel like facing work, we'd get fired.
No, we haven't had a decade without it. Now we ship them to Mexico where they suffer horrific, inhumane conditions. Frankly, the horses would suffer less if we had well-regulated facilities in the US. I don't like it but let's not pretend we've made things better just because we don't have to see it
