I was recently asked how I survive as a freelance writer... the answer is that half of my work isn't even writing currently. I'm also a fact-checker and an editorial assistant (which I love), but I do have to write a lot less than I'd like to.

From article: During the drive to the station, prosecutors say she made statements to officers about immigration enforcement, including, “Why are you doing this to your people?” and “What are you going to tell your children about what you do?”

I'm hoping she struck a nerve.

Why are alt-crunchy people worried about red40 and Tylenol when they should worry about PFAS?

It's so weird to freelance while it feels like the country is rapidly declining. But my family survived decades of authoritarianism... So maybe, I can as well?

The collapse of science and climate journalism this year has been heartbreaking. But it also feels amazingly demoralizing.

If I was really rich, I would not complain about mayors refusing to meet with me; I would just buy a lot of Lego sets and spend extended periods in Tokyo, Italy, and France

Just know that every mass media layoff will disproportionately affect Black & Latin@ journalists. Their peers will see support and success and we'll be pushed further into the margins.

I feel like our stories are disappearing and there isn't much we can do about it.

I wrote an essay about my grandmother's powder box for @opensecretsmag.bsky.social. Writing this reminds me that some of the objects that we own anchor us to people and memories that we can't physically access anymore.

Besties, you need to a hobby to build community and find ways to have fund outside of just retail therapy. So I wrote a guide. My latest:

“Andrew Cuomo will spend much of tonight attacking me. He is a desperate man lashing out because he knows that the one thing he’s always cared about—power—is now slipping away from him.”

Yoooooooooo
What keeps New Yorkers up at night are not the right-wing fever dreams of Andrew Cuomo.

It's whether or not they can keep living in the city they love.

I'm the only candidate on stage tonight with a vision for the future and a plan to bring down costs.

Protests are not just a one-off event, they're a pathway to more civic engagement and organizing.

I wrote about the impact of No Kings Day for @npquarterly.bsky.social

Last summer, I reported an 8,000-word story about the mass privatization of the Massacuhsetts coastline; with a focus on Cape Cod. It involved taking a legally dodgy beach walk from Provincetown to Truro.

Today, I wrote about how you can do this too. If you want.
