I've been hanging with the hollow men who never got the groove..HUFC following, record collecting, Greyhound dad and ex gadabout. #Fridayvinyl.- every Friday, I have a few beers, play LP's and post pictures of them. Dreary Moron.
Well, that's the #Fridayvinyl best of '25 done with. I note it's gone down to the usual indifference. No matter, here's #TheIncredibleJimmySmith to wave us off, as he does. See you next week for Xmaz tunze. 'til then, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #Vinylcommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

We round up #Fridayvinyl's best of 2025 with #HannahCohen and her fourth which came out in March. Containing one of my top tracks of the year in the shimmering "Dusty", this is a gorgeous LP which was perfect for Summer and brings welcome warmth on this dark December night. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

When #Pulp announced their 8th LP last year, I greeted the news with a little trepidation. Could they reignite that spark? Turns out they could, in spades. This is up there with their very best work and was rightly roundly praised. A fabulous comeback #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

#HouseOfAll 's 3rd, released in Feb, continued a solid catalogue to date from #TheFall alumni. With a new disc in the offing next March, it's a beautiful thing that these excellent musicians have a second lease of life beyond that feted gruppe. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #FallFriday

Next on #Fridayvinyl 's best of 2025. #BryanFerry and visual artist #AmeliaBarratt quietly released this collaboration LP back in March. Pairing unused Roxy/Ferry demos with Barratt 's cool narration, it's at turns unsettling and beautiful. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Time for the penultimate #Fridayvinyl of 2025, and as is tradition, it's a best of the year. Funds have been tight so I haven't bought as many discs as I'd like, but the ones I did are all ace. In no order then, we begin with #SaintEtienne and their Swansong.

We close, of course, with #TheIncredibleJimmySmith and this week he's found in '68 playing "The Standards". When Jimmy lets those magic fingers fly, the results are anything but standard..'til next week then, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

#Fridayvinyl has become something of a #Motown love in of late. Let's keep that good feeling going with #TheFourTops. Despite it being their fifth LP, this plays like a greatest hits package. It's just banger after banger thanks to those final, legendary H-D-H cuts. #VinylCommumity #Vinylsky

Speaking of bargains, you can currently snap up this seminal live recording for just seven English pounds on Discogs. A double LP too, more than several bangs for your buck. #EricDolphy is, naturally, brilliant here on Alto Sax, Bass Clarinet and Flute. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

Next up is an LP which I admired when released, however record buying funds were low at the time. When #JesseBuckleyBernardButler' s 2022 collaboration came up for the frankly ridiculous price of £8 the other week, I jumped on it. This is simply lovely stuff. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

World Cup draw on mute and time for the last regular #Fridayvinyl of the year. Next week is a best of 2025, Xmas tunes the following week. We kick off with #TheBeachBoys and an LP which I first owned as a twofer CD (paired with 68's "Friends"), 1969's "20/20".

Time for #TheIncredibleJimmySmith to shut up shop. This week it's '74's "BlackSmith" which features an excellent rendition of the Timmy Thomas classic "Why Can't We Live Together". 'til next time, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x

A typical #Fridayvinyl gear change next with #MarinaAllen and her third LP which was released (never "dropped") last year. I first heard Marina through her couple of tracks as guest vocalist on Sylvie's s/t LP from 2022 and fell for that silky voice instantly. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Next up, and for the second week running we have #TheFall, here with their 8th LP. Mrs. Smith beginning to make her presence felt more and more with the first inklings of an eye on the charts. It's my personal favourite of the Brix years. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #FallFriday

A truly diverse band, #TheFoundations were a breath of fresh air. Taking their cues from Motown, their infectious pop soul sound lit up the hit parade with joy. This, their debut from '67 is choc full of disco stompers and chart friendly cheer. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

#Fridayvinyl time! A rare weekend off for yours truly so I'm beginning it in style with one of the finest collections of singles you're likely to find (We'll just "pretend" the Chrissie/UB40 Sonny & Cher cover isn't there..) #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #ThePretenders
November 28, 2025 at 6:17 PM
And so, as per, it's over to #TheIncredibleJimmySmith to put an end to these end of week plastic listenings. This week we find him in '62 and his Verve debut "Bashin'". 'til the next #Fridayvinyl, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #Vinylcommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

I remarked a few weeks back that #Motown Chartbusters 3 is probably the finest comp ever. I tell you what though, Vol.4 is up there too. You may know these songs like the back of your hand, but solid gold like this never, ever diminishes. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
November 21, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Despite looking like four plasterers, #TheMotors were purveyors of superior pub-rock-power-pop, as evident on two cracking singles (Airport and Grandstand theme soundalike "Forget About You"). Both feature on this, their second LP, released in '78. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

Staying in Manchester for the next #Fridayvinyl pick with a (sort of) brand new comp. Updated and abridged from its original '04 CD release, it's great to have these tracks all together and on vinyl. An hour and twenty minutes of perfection. #FallFriday #TheFall #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky

#Fridayvinyl time. Only one way to begin this week's selections. Fly high Mani.x

I was lucky enough to see the Roses four times and on each occasion my eyes were drawn to Mani. He always seemed to be the one that REALLY loved his band. Simple yet effective does him a disservice, he could hold it down but he also absolutely flew with Reni. A terrible loss. Rest easy #Mani x
November 20, 2025 at 7:18 PM
Lastly, of course, it's #TheIncredibleJimmySmith. This week we have the B-3 Bomber in '63 with "Bucket!". And that's a wrap for another #Fridayvinyl, see you in seven, but remember, stay safe, stay loose and stay lovely. Peace.x #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky #Jazz

Sometimes, only the best will do. They don't come much better than #ArethaFranklin, one of those voices that stun me with wonder every.single.time. Name a better set of pipes. Impossible. Here she is with her '68 classic, "Lady Soul". Now excuse me while I kiss the sky. #VinylCommunity #Vinylsky
November 14, 2025 at 8:45 PM
I know I bang on about #RichardSwift, but you really should do yourself a massive favour and acquaint yourself with his work. Released posthumously after his tragic early passing, his final LP, "The Hex" is a heartbreaker. Inevitably, my tears will roll. Such a loss. #Fridayvinyl #VinylCommunity
