This map from recent paper in NatComm is just another example of how russia uses science in its war. It shows that russians sequenced plant samples from annexed Crimea & temporary occupied territories in Ukraine. The question is how it passed peer-review & got published without problems.

Watched this and it reminded me that some years ago when I applied for a few positions in science in the US, employers always said that one must have a driver license "because it's not safe to walk in the US" & "there's mostly no good public transport either".

Leider ist dies in Wissenschaft schon lange Realität. Es ist fast unmöglich, Kinder, Familie und langfristige Beziehungen zu haben, wenn man nur kurze Verträge hat und jedes Jahr von einem Ort/Land/Kontinent zum anderen ziehen muss.

Es läuft meist darauf hinaus, dass man entweder mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit keine Kinder mehr bekommen wird (da man es für die "Qualifizierung" verschiebt), oder mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit keine Professur, da man Kinder bekommen hat. Eine Option so schlecht wie die andere.

Schote - aus 2 Fruchtblattern, typisch für Kreuzblütengewächse (Brassicaceae). Es gibt 2 Arten, abhängig vom Verhältnis Länge zu Breite - Schoten (mind 4x länger als breiter) and Shöttchen (bis zum 3x länger als breiter).

Es gibt ein sehr typischer Fehler, den ich zufällig auch in der aktuellen Sendung mit der Maus entdeckt habe: "Die [Erbsen] sind in solche längliche Hülsen oder Schoten".

Botaniker hier: Hülsen ≠ Schoten. Dies sind zwei sehr unterschiedliche Früchte.

If russia manages to damage ZNPP to the stage of nuclear disaster, it will have global consequences. This not only about pollution but that fact that all international organizations uncluding IAEA were unable to prevent it.
