As the mom of two young men in this age group, this breaks my heart. It's unbelievable how pervasive this problem is. And how few parents talk about it. 💔🤍💙

Why are young people, males in particular, so susceptible to sports-bet apps? One gambling addiction expert tells Rolling Stone:

“This generation was basically bred for addiction, raised on cell phones inches from their faces.”

I have been hearing about the "dual state" ever since I lived in Germany in the 1990s. It was real. Be wary. 💔🤍💙

This is a good start to a conversation about school district governance that is VERY overdue. I'm not saying the system is totally broken, but it could sure use improvement as the management of #K12 #education becomes ever more complex. ❤️🤍💙 districtadministration.com/article/do-w...
Do we need a change to school board elections?
School board members are likely to have a different view of hot-button issues than the general public. Here's why that's a problem.

This doesn't surprise me the tiniest bit. Good job by the Washington Post reporter to *not* go along with the narrative of his owner. ❤️🤍💙 (The cynical part of me wonders how long he'll have his job. The Post does not have a good track record for dissent lately.) wapo.st/48sc33b

I appreciate the effort Pano puts into classifying publications. Obviously news is more complex than this--the framing within stories is hugely important, and I have been disappointed by the mainstream media in regards to their editorial decisions recently--but this is still a great resource. ❤️🤍💙

State humanities departments are highly under-rated as places where civic discourse is still valued. That's true in Missouri and in Florida too apparently, as this conversation is funded by a grant from them. ❤️🤍💙 tlh.villagesquare.us/event/one-st...

Could not love this idea more! I spend many hours a week talking in depth with people I don't know, but not everyone has that luxury (yes, it is a luxury!). So here is a way to get out of your echo chamber in a way that feels safe to you. Sign up for a single conversation. ❤️🤍💙 takeonesmallstep.org
One Small Step: Let's talk for a change.

Charlie Kirk famously asked college audiences to “change his mind”, but his mind never got changed.

An expert on the language strategies used to advance white supremacy says that is definitely not the “right way”, and suggests a different approach.
After Charlie Kirk’s murder, the US might seem hopelessly divided – is there any way forward?
Trying to change someone’s mind can seem futile. But there are approaches to political discourse that still matter, even if they don’t instantly win someone over.
