"the present government invites a terror attack. Most of the people directing the relevant agencies are incompetent; the next few layers down have been purged in culture wars; much the remaining personnel have resigned, been fired, or are demoralized"
By distracting us with fake terrorism, this administration is inviting the real thing.

As Snyder pointed out in Black Earth, we tend to think of bureaucracy as the key mechanism of Nazi extermination, but bureaucracy slowed things down. It was statelessness (coupled with lack of passports) that made the killings possible
2/4. The entire practice of the Holocaust of the Jews involved zones of statelessness. It is easier to move people away from law than it is to remove law from people. Almost all of the killing took place in artificially created stateless zones.

Brilliant. One add: hospitality means cutting slack to a foreign leader who is speaking their second (or third) language. When Zelensky said "You will feel it in the future," Trump reacted angrily to the word "feel." Any other American President would have had the grace to cut Zelensky some slack.
Here I react to the shameful encounter between American leaders and media and the Ukrainian president. No doubt there were more, but I saw five failures on our side: of hospitality, decency, democracy, strategy, and independence. Please watch and share.

The drama triangle from psychology has three roles: victim, rescuer, and persecutor. Trump and Vance played all three in the meeting with Zelensky, but mostly persecutor. Zelensky, for his part, managed to stay out of the drama triangle for the bulk of the conversation, a remarkable achievement.

There are tens of thousands of articles and posts from bright and accomplished people that refer to the "Russiagate Hoax" as an accepted fact. Perhaps it's time for these folks to use Find/Replace to substitute the word "hoax" with "scandal." All the evidence is right there today.

Glad to be here. First post. Aiming for a mood of lighthearted sobriety. Wrote this a week ago when the car had a few fewer clowns than it does today.
