Hurricane Melissa's central pressure dropped to 892 mb today, tying the Labor Day storm of 1935 for the 3rd lowest pressure on record in the Atlantic basin.

Sustained winds peaked at 185 mph.

The only Atlantic hurricane on record with higher winds was Allen in 1980 at 190 mph.

Cat 5 Hurricane Melissa will likely be the worst storm Jamaica has ever seen.

From @NHC_Atlantic : "The eyewall’s destructive winds may cause total structural failure...leading to widespread infrastructural damage, prolonged power and communication outages, and isolated communities."

Two men were struck by lightning today near #Flagstaff.

We are hearing they are both alive, thankfully!

Big improvement in our Arizona drought thanks to remnant tropical moisture from Priscilla and Raymond.

Extreme drought dropped 9%.

Central Arizona benefited the most with Phoenix getting more than 3" of rain!

Phoenix is finally drying out after an epic stretch of rainy days.

This is already the 3rd wettest October on record and we're only halfway through!

Sky Harbor has picked up nearly 6 times the normal amount of rainfall for the month of October.

Slight drought improvement across Arizona thanks to last week's rain.

Still 100% of AZ in drought, but Extreme Drought dropped 3% and Severe Drought dropped 4%.

More drought help coming toward the middle to end of next week as rain chances ramp up again.

A mixed bag of above normal and below normal rainfall across Arizona.

Heavy downpours filling gauges late last week across the Valley, bringing Sky Harbor up to 2.76" of rain. (The 47th wettest on record and 0.33" above average.)

Just a few days left to get rain in the gauges for Monsoon 2025.

Best bet for showers and thunderstorms in the Valley will be Friday.

As of today, Sky Harbor has picked up 0.91" of rain this monsoon. Normal for the entire season is 2.43".
