I love the unconcerned chicken in that photo. The storm behind her is about to turn day into night. The winds will hit at 65 mph and the temp will drop 30 degrees in minutes. Run, chicken!

These storms didn't just happen. The Dust Bowl is the worst man-made ecological disaster in U.S. History.

#OnThisDayinHistory April 14, 1935 - Black Sunday. A massive storm crossed six states carrying 300,000 tons of topsoil--more soil than was excavated to create the Panama Canal. That project took 7 years. The storm lasted a single afternoon.

Also a brutal year for most writers who aren’t big names or celebs. If you can’t afford a book, take one out of a library, leave a review, share a post, leave sacrificial offerings to the publishing gods etc

Not sure people realise how hard it's been recently for artists to survive, or how deeply appreciated every single order is. If you can't buy something, it makes a huge difference just to share our work. If you can't share our work, a little sacrifice to the Old Gods on our behalf means a lot, too 💜

Thanks for starting this, Kate. WHERE ONLY STORMS GROW is I Survived meets The War that Saved My Life and set in the 1839’s Dust Bowl. Comes out 8/19/25. Conservation themes & one of the twin narrators has life-impacting scoliosis.
