Actually the biggest problem is that I want to put an audiobook or something on while I do things, but I'm still too much in the DCC headspace to listen to something else, and I do want to listen to the new Toby Daye soon, so I can't just start over again...

I keep wanting to look up things that only exist in the series, but there's no actual info out there yet because this stuff hasn't been explained in the books yet, and argh! I need Google for the entire fictional world of an incomplete series...

The question is, after re-reading and re-listening to the whole Dungeon Crawler Carl series, and the next book not being due out till May of next year 😭 what am I supposed to do with myself?

No rush! Just don't want to spoil anything for you till you're caught up 😊

So Raq has been watching a lot of 80s and 90s horror lately, and now I'm starting to think someone should recruit John Carpenter for the Dungeon Crawler Carl adaptation. With practical effects, of course.

@kath-ballantyne.bsky.social You'll have to tell me when you're caught up so I can send you a picture!

They're gorgeous, and just a perfect match with the book 💜

Welp. The fantastic @galaxybookshop.bsky.social delivered me my hard cover copy of @seananmcguire.bsky.social's Silver and Lead today, with the preorder stickers included. And now I am crying happy tears over the stickers 😭💜

The back of which has some examples.
Back cover of The Deeper Meaning of Liff, showing reviews and sample definitions.

Was reminded recently of The Meaning of Liff, by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd. It's a dictionary of things there aren't official words for (taken from maps, where the words were just hanging around doing nothing). This weekend, I found my copy, and also my copy of The Deeper Meaning of Liff.

I love learning stuff like this, and getting a better understanding of what software can do. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this app once I get to sit down with it.

Had a galaxy brain moment in the morning when the trainer was explaining elements of how the app works, and I realised - PowerBI is like the jpeg of data. You don't store a huge block of data, you store the info you need to define it. So you can work with the data without needing to store it.

Did my second full day of PowerBI training today, and basically spent the whole time geeking out about data and analysis 😂

Throw in adhd boredom and the inability to follow through, or apply themselves to tasks that don't appeal, and you get a bizarre kind of chaos agent.
Which, from what I've seen, leads to additional struggles for any kids they have. Can go to anxiety, or anger, but it's all bonus stress.

The over-empathy causes pain and gets you judged, so you cut it off and train yourself to ignore it in favour of strict rules that you piece together from the world around you, then you never, ever vary from them. And you have to have absolute confidence in them, as part of the self-protection.

It's all about how we get socialised. Especially with someone like your MIL, who is likely AuDHD. One of the only ways to survive with it is to define what The Rules are for you, and never vary from them, and refuse to accept that there might be alternatives. I've seen it in older undiagnosed women.

As part of the curly hair management I'm using these days, I only wash it once or twice a week, and between that I often refresh with spray on conditioner. It's doing really well. But it sounds like the primer might be an excellent refresh option as well.

Lol, I love it! I didn't need it last Xmas, then missed the winter batch, so I got super excited when I saw it was up. I miss existing in a cloud of the smell of sugar and musk sticks! And I'm really interested to try the shampoo and the hair primer.

I think if you didn't grow up with them, they're so odd it's hard to adapt to them. But they've always been my favourite cough drop, even if they're not necessarily the most effective.
alisso.bsky.social
It's all good! I completely understand and validate the need to vent sometimes 😊

Yet more evidence that adhd is genetic...

It's always been about access, it just used to be about internet/tech/financial inequality, then it expanded out into being a tool for disability access.
I like knowing that the early developers of web standards were thinking things like, "what if users can't load images". Access was always key.

Was in a training course for a Microsoft product the other day and the trainer explained alt-text as a tool for accessibility, and I had a sudden and weirdly vivid memory of the first circumstances where I saw alt-text - as a way to explain what was missing if you couldn't load images on a website.

I love them too. My primary school sold them in paper bags back in the day, before they had to switch to plastic packaging. It's such a unique flavour.
