The fire slowly claimed the new log. Two metaphors hung in the air: a promise of a gilded dawn after the storm, and the celebration of a brilliant, brief moment in the dark. Raising her glass, she thought, “whether this is the silver lining or the silvering itself, it’s still silver. It’s precious.”
