Our new butterfly gyroid paper is out! We found that the gyroid nanostructure embedded within the wing scales of Parides sesostris butterflies develops in the pupa as a gyroid made up of entangled fibres.

Loved working on this collaboration with @jenkelley01.bsky.social and so happy to see it published. The three-dimensional appearance that these moths create on their flat wings is really remarkable and it was great fun characterising the effect.
