Making these kinds of decisions is hard, as our team is not immune to emotions that come with saying goodbye, but animal welfare and rehab efficacy will always be our top priorities.

As young moose are best rehabilitated together, it only made sense to send her to another rehab center that has other moose calves in care. Our friends at Medicine River Wildlife Center will now be providing this calf with the best of care on her rehab journey.

We have moose news! ๐ŸซŽ๐Ÿ“ฃ

After much thought, the clinic team decided it was best to move our moose patient to another facility.

This certainly could be mange, as bats can contract the disease. That said, mange is rare in bats, to the point that we've never had to treat a bat for mange at our clinic.
In the coming weeks, all three cubs currently in care will be introduced to one another and will spend the summer together learning how to be proper bears!

Two more orphaned bear cubs have come to the clinic! ๐Ÿป๐Ÿป

These unrelated cubs, both from the Slave Lake area, were observed without their mothers for several days.

Can you be-leaf our beaver patient has been with us for over a year! ๐Ÿฆซ๐Ÿคฏ

She still has another year in care before she's ready to be released back to the wild!

Mmmm...dirt! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Dirt might not be the first thing you'd think to feed a deer fawn, but it's a vital source of microbes for their growing gut. Without access to dirt, a deer fawn can't develop a healthy microbiome to digest their tough plant diet. ๐Ÿฆ ๐ŸŒฟ

If looks could kill, great horned owls wouldn't need 4 deadly talons on each foot! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜…

They grow up so fast! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

In just two weeks, our northern flicker patients went from featherless, blind hatchlings to fully feathered nestlings!

We've cared for nearly 500 wildlife patients so far this month! ๐Ÿคฏ

Let's hear it for the rehabilitation team who are working hard to help these animals in need during our busiest time of year! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ“ž If you see a fledgling and you aren't sure if it needs help, please call our Wildlife Hotline (403-946-2361) before taking action!

๐Ÿ›‘ REMINDER: A fledgling on the ground is probably ok!

Fledglings are kind of like the scruffy teenage phase for young songbirds. They are just starting to learn how to fly, and may find themselves in awkward places, BUT, they usually don't need help.

A special thank you to Alberta Fish & Wildlife officers who installed a radio collar and drove this young bear to a remote location near where he was originally found.

We're delighted to announce the release of last winter's bear cub! ๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ‰

He arrived in care severely emaciated on December 9, 2024, and has since gained a whopping 38 kilograms!

LOVE THESE TIPS! The only thing I would caution is if you grab "wildflower seed mixes" to plant that you look closely at what seeds are included. Sometimes it is a non-native mish-mash that can introduce invasives. Otherwise, great list!
The first black bear cub of the year has arrived in care! ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ“ฃ

This young female was found orphaned just outside of Whitecourt, AB. She's been very feisty and shows no signs of habituation.

You can sponsor her care here: aiwc.shop/collections/...

A fawn is only in need of help if it is visibly injured or vocalizing in distress.

๐Ÿ“ž Please call our Wildlife Hotline (403-946-2361) before taking action to help a fawn.

#wildliferescue #alberta #charity
๐Ÿ›‘ REMINDER: Leave that fawn there!

Mother deer only visit their fawns to nurse for short periods each day. That means it's perfectly normal for a fawn to be on their own for most of the day.

We're in need of pillowcases to be used as substrate for our baby bird patients! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ’™

If you have information regarding the donation of pillowcases, please email Clinic Operations Manager Raelee at [email protected].

Back to the wild for this Swainson's hawk! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

His recovery was truly amazing, as he was found unable to stand due to a spinal injury. Just 11 days of supportive care later, and he was back to his active self and ready to be released!
