In this 2009 interview, Eric Woolfson reflects on the fortunate timing of ‘I Robot’s’ release in 1977, the same year Star Wars hit cinemas and robots became a cultural phenomenon.

With a robot-like figure on the cover, the album tapped into the moment perfectly.

‘I Robot’ is reissued next week!
The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Emily Blunt, is out in cinemas this week and features a track from The Alan Parsons Project. Have you seen the film yet, and did you spot the APP track?
Happy Birthday to APP vocalist Jack Harris.

Jack’s distinctive voice can be heard leading ‘Day After Day (The Show Must Go On)’ on ‘I Robot’ and ‘Pyramania’ from ‘Pyramid'.
In this 2009 clip, Eric Woolfson reflects on ‘Don’t Let It Show’ and how its meaning can be both completely obvious and yet intriguingly obscure.

The song appears on the classic Alan Parsons Project album ‘I Robot’, which will be reissued on 17 October. Pre-order your copy: approject.lnk.to/irobot.

Lenny Zakatek’s vocal on 'I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You' is the finishing touch on one of The Alan Parsons Project’s most enduring songs. Before lending his voice to APP, Lenny fronted the band Gonzalez, who were represented by Eric Woolfson prior to his partnership with Alan.
Born on this day in 1945, Dean Ford (05.09.45 – 31.12.18) made his mark on ‘Pyramid’ with his distinctive vocals. He took the lead on ‘Can’t Take It With You’ and added his voice to ‘What Goes Up’.
On 17 October, the classic APP album ‘I Robot’ will be reissued in a variety of exciting formats. Among these is an expanded CD featuring a remaster of the original album by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, four bonus tracks, and more.

This week in 1979, ‘Eve’ was released.

The fourth Alan Parsons Project album delved into themes of female strength and the challenges faced in a male-dominated world. It also happened to be named after Eric Woolfson’s mother-in-law!

Which track from the album resonates most with you today?
Did you know the cover of ‘I Robot’ was inspired by Eric Woolfson’s trips through Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport and its futuristic robotic people mover? Here he is in 2009 recalling that moment of inspiration.
