That's really interesting! I've read somewhere that up on a map being North is a relatively recent convention thus Caithness and Dumfries/Galloway are not where our brains expect them to be. I think compasses are post-Roman so they wouldn't have had a north-bias like we do today?

Any experience is good experience. Very privileged indeed to get a chance to be part of a dig at Druminnor Castle near Rhynie. A bit of planning and levelling and trying to find a cut/fill.
It's like something from a movie...a curse has just been unleashed!! Put it back in the ground🤣🤣
Helping open up the site at Battlehill, Huntly. The dig is run by Murray Cook of Stirling Archaeology!
