D'Angelo made some of the greatest music of the nineties and of the 21st century, while you were all too busy swooning over Britpop and emo hunks to pay it or him any proper attention. R.I.P.

This is the D'Angelo performance that I've never forgotten. This song was already a huge hit but the way he took it from contemporary R&B to church revival illustrated how connected those idioms are. A revelation for those who didn't know, and an affirmation for those who did.

What D’Angelo said Black Messiah means. It came out at the end of 2014 and it was so needed.
Article (Nolan Feeney; TIME) excerpt reads: “Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can be misunderstood. Many will think it's about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I'm calling myself a Black Messiah. For me, the title is about all of us. It's about the world. It's about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah.

It's about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and in every place where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen, D'Angelo writes in a statement about the album It's not about praising one charismatic leader but celebrating thousands of them. Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are), but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape there these songs can live to the fullest. Black Messiah is not one man. It's a feeling that, collectively, we are all that leader.”

“D’Angelo’s First Album in 14 Years Is Finally Here, and It’s Surprisingly Timely” via TIME.

The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

Yeah, if they snore that loudly then I think it is a medical issue - if they are nice then they should know (if they don't) for their own good, not to mention yours. I hope your back is better!

Nobody has ever satisfactorily figured out exactly what these lyrics mean - this old ILM thread made a valiant attempt:

RIP Diane Keaton
My favourite picture of her where everyone else is giving it their best Blue Steel & she looks like she’s just wandered in off the street looking super cool.
She was allowed to wear her own clothes & her wonderful personality shines out.
What a unique talent & human being.

The mumbles, hesitations, nose scratches, nervous laughter that Brando, Clift, et. al. introduced to acting — Diane Keaton incorporated them into a range of performances. She was a superb dramatic actor (SHOOT THE MOON) and a dizzy comedian. RIP. wp.me/pzXeC-e5Y
