We can call it Ghanatanamo.

My guess is that Mikey will just refuse to call the House into session.
agent53.bsky.social
The problem is that the Speaker isn't required to do anything until the election has been certified by the state.

Legally, he hasn't shirked his duties, he simply has avoided the common practice of swearing people in early.

Even then, he's not going to call the House back into session

That's totally understandable!

But if it's like "oh, I was in my 30s, I thought he was funny, I didn't think he would actually do the things he said he would." Then yeah, kick rocks.

I believe there has to be some room for forgiveness. If a 20-year-old raised by Republicans voted for Trump because they were taught from birth to hate Hillary Clinton, but 4 years later realized their parents were just bigots and voted for Biden, then there's a place for understanding.

Especially when defending a Bari Weiss glazing article diagnosing us all with "Bari Weiss Derangement Syndrome" for . . . Having a different opinion.

For a moment, I thought there was a Canadian remake of the Highlander movie/show I was missing out on.

To each their own. I'm willing to hear them out on their reasoning and find out if they've grown as a person since 2016.
agent53.bsky.social
I don't blame you. I do my best to offer second chances, and I do believe in people learning from mistakes. So I'm willing to consider 2016, if you managed to vote in a more responsible manner afterwards.

The Falling Skies reference alone gets a like from me! Great show.

I know we've all been trained to condemn violence and preach peaceful protesting.

But what do we do if the Trump regime just keeps doing whatever they want?
agent53.bsky.social
I dunno about the rest of you, but the litmus test for the rest of my life will be "how many times did you vote for Trump?" And if the answer isn't zero, I'm open to forgiving 1 vote if it was 2016. Beyond that? We don't need to be friends.

I'm not surprised by the GOP embracing authoritarianism.

But they embraced one of the most incompetent despots in history. Imagine Stalin or Hitler just screaming "DO SOMETHING" into the void of social media and then trying to convince everyone they have plenary authority.

The only way that happens is if there are post-revolution tribunals run by the people.

Because we gave Biden and Garland 4 years to indict Trump on a myriad of crimes and they did fuck all. None of these people will be punished because they're all in the same club.

They keep bringing up this "far-left assassin" but the only people who got shot were immigrants.

Make it make sense.

Nothing sums up our nation's history of injustice like a man imprisoned for over 40 years without true due process, just to be put right back into a cell without due process.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

He was wrongfully imprisoned for 43 years. Moments after being released, ICE took him
Subramanyam “Subu” Vedam now faces deportation.

Question for #lawsky Could you make the argument that tracking someone is a "search" and without reasonable cause violates the 4th Amendment?
junlper.beer
we need to abolish this shit
agent53.bsky.social
I wonder if you could make the argument that tracking someone counts as a "search" and violates the 4th amendment.
agent53.bsky.social
Page one? We're at least 3 chapters deep, lmao. People keep treating single events like, "here it is, here's the beginning!"

We need to start recognizing we're knee-deep in authoritarianism.

I never said anything about a conspiracy. But no one building housing is interested in building enough of it to make housing cheaper.

For someone constantly bringing up supply and demand, I'm not sure why this simple economic idea is so difficult for you to admit.

Today I learned about the 1965 experiment to replace migrant farm workers with Boomer teenagers. They called it "The A-Team" and it failed so hard everyone pretended it never happened.

Not in my city. Rents go up like clockwork every lease renewal, and new buildings are heavily overpriced.

Funny enough, some new buildings have had to resort to income-based rent so they can get the gov subsidies. So some renters pay $2k and some pay $700 cuz most people can't afford that shit.

Bird flu cases in chicken flocks have been spiking and the CDC has been largely silent about it.

I wouldn't expect anything useful from them for the duration of the Trump regime. However long that may be.
agent53.bsky.social
True, and that's the point. They do build apartments in walkable neighborhoods. But they're expensive, and they will never build enough of them that they can't keep raising rhe prices.
