The problem is that the Speaker isn't required to do anything until the election has been certified by the state.

Legally, he hasn't shirked his duties, he simply has avoided the common practice of swearing people in early.

Even then, he's not going to call the House back into session

I believe there has to be some room for forgiveness. If a 20-year-old raised by Republicans voted for Trump because they were taught from birth to hate Hillary Clinton, but 4 years later realized their parents were just bigots and voted for Biden, then there's a place for understanding.

I dunno about the rest of you, but the litmus test for the rest of my life will be "how many times did you vote for Trump?" And if the answer isn't zero, I'm open to forgiving 1 vote if it was 2016. Beyond that? We don't need to be friends.

I'm not surprised by the GOP embracing authoritarianism.

But they embraced one of the most incompetent despots in history. Imagine Stalin or Hitler just screaming "DO SOMETHING" into the void of social media and then trying to convince everyone they have plenary authority.

The only way that happens is if there are post-revolution tribunals run by the people.

Because we gave Biden and Garland 4 years to indict Trump on a myriad of crimes and they did fuck all. None of these people will be punished because they're all in the same club.

I never said anything about a conspiracy. But no one building housing is interested in building enough of it to make housing cheaper.

Today I learned about the 1965 experiment to replace migrant farm workers with Boomer teenagers. They called it "The A-Team" and it failed so hard everyone pretended it never happened.

Not in my city. Rents go up like clockwork every lease renewal, and new buildings are heavily overpriced.

Funny enough, some new buildings have had to resort to income-based rent so they can get the gov subsidies. So some renters pay $2k and some pay $700 cuz most people can't afford that shit.

Bird flu cases in chicken flocks have been spiking and the CDC has been largely silent about it.

I wouldn't expect anything useful from them for the duration of the Trump regime. However long that may be.

True, and that's the point. They do build apartments in walkable neighborhoods. But they're expensive, and they will never build enough of them that they can't keep raising rhe prices.
