parallel to the shore power connection, no? And not sure why that would not reduce ghg emissions at all. The assumption is always that more and more of the grid electricity will come from renewable sources.

Thank you, understand the cost and timeline aspect of this as well as the fact that -unfortunately- the industry would not foot any part of this bill. But I am not sure I agree that this would "enable the industry to pollute when not plugged in" - the restrictions on HFO could be enforced in

a Scrubber. However, in their simple versions, Scrubbers produce large amounts of wastewater which is toxic in many ways. Scrubbers became a popular choice in the run-up to the '2020 sulphur cap' was demanded sulphur content reduction in marine fuels from -typical- 3.5% to <=0.5%.

Scrubbers are large systems that are designed to remove sulphur oxide (SOx) from the exhaust gas. Operators can choose to either burn the much cleaner -but more expensive- distillate fuels such as MGO (Marine Gas Oil) or keep burning the much dirtier -but cheaper- HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) alongside

Today starts the 2nd and final extraordinary session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee of the IMO which will -hopefully- confirm the IMO Net Zero Framework, #IMONZF. Strong backing from the EU, strong opposition from the US.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

Scrubbers have only been around so that vessels can keep burning HFO. I totally second the ban on open-loop Scrubbers. I am surprised there is no mention of cold ironing though.

The "Saint George was Turkish" line as a gotcha response to flagshaggers' bigotry is silly because:
a) it is factually incorrect, obviously,
b) it aligns with Turkey's historical revisionism - not cool
c) there are so many better ways to attack the racism and

Greece will pay a fine of 5.5 million EUR plus €12,500 per day of delay after failing to shut down an illegal landfill in the Zakynthos National Marine Park, a vital habitat of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). #Ζάκυνθος. What a rubbish country.

Dirty oil produced in the country of dictator Aliyev, refined in the country of dictator Erdogan is exported to the country of the war criminal Netanyahu. Shame on the Alafouzos family for being so keen to participate in this dirty business.

CW: protester being struck in the head by a pepper ball

Footage I took earlier of the moment Reverend David Black, a regular protester outside of the Broadview Detention Center, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by ICE agents on the roof of the facility.

Elon Musk Just Became The First Person Ever Worth $500bn.

He has used his wealth to buy govts/legislators, unleash Trumpism, promising to hand $100m to Farage, create social strife and divisions.

Like the rest of us, he will leave the world empty-handed.

Donald, I think you should fire that guy that announced that -3,000 number. He's probably antifa. You should announce the true created jobs number which has obviously increased 3 million percent.

Javier Milei had to beg a bail-out and already needs another. Argentina's economy is in a tailspin. Gov't bonds and peso in freefall. People starving, throwing rocks at him.

Farage last year: "He's amazing. It's Thatcherism on steroids. Cutting and slashing expenditure. That's leadership."

Israel's total blockade of the Gaza strip, including from the sea, is illegal because it equals collective punishment, a war crime. Calling Putin a war criminal but not doing so with Netanyahu is a dangerous double standards practice that will leave a long-standing dirty legacy.

it puts human life in danger. Israel is violating international law for the umpteenth time. Condemning Russia's aggression in the Black Sea but not doing the same with Israel in the Mediterranean or with the US in the Caribbean is dangerous, an inconsistency that will come back to haunt us.
