My grandad wasn’t, just drove a universal carrier around southern England for a bit before being discharged from the army due to an allergic reaction to surge. He had it quite cushy.

Seriously. My school friend Matthew‘s dad used to do clay pigeon shooting. Although he used to lock his guns away, we used to steal his shotgun cartridges saw the ends off & play with the powder. Hitting the end of the cartridges with a hammer is probably one of the reasons why I have tinnitus now.

A few pints in my great local micropub and a takeout for later. Sunday afternoons at their best.

It’s handy that as well as Hinchingbrooke hospital there’s both a police station as well as Cambridgeshire Constabulary headquarters all within a quarter mile of the station. Still a fantastic response.

And to think that almost exactly a week ago last Saturday evening I was stood at a very quiet Huntingdon station waiting for my train back to Peterborough.

I hope that you picked up a few local ales. The Oundle Waitrose often has a few beers from the Potbelly Brewery in Kettering. The Nene Valley brewery is also very close and I highly recommend their bourbon barrel aged Russian imperial stout. One of my favourites.

I miss evening rail travel in the dark, Huntington Station I quite like.

A local Greene King pub, The Harrier in Peterborough. I don’t go in very often but it’s the nearest pub to me. They used to have the GK staples on as well as one or two of their seasonal brews. Now I cycle an extra mile to The Frothblowers, 6-8 rotating cask beers, all well maintained.

At least he got a pint of IPA. I called into my local GK pub this week, no cask beers on at all. No IPA or Abbott, Unthinkable for a GK pub. I suppose it just doesn’t sell to the TV sports crowd.

Easily one of the most beautiful film scores ever recorded. It’s just lovely, Stephen Oliver died far before his time.
