It was great to have BASW hosting a session on ‘the role of social workers in the aftermath of disasters' to our mental health network today. We know the importance of supporting people’s mental wellbeing through difficult times and the integral role social work plays in this.

To celebrate the #InternationalDayOfOlderPersons, we’ve added a new story to #CareCantWait.

With the support of her carers, 92-year-old Pam is able to live independently at home, surrounded by family, friends, neighbours & the community that she loves.

President of @adass.bsky.social @jessmcp.bsky.social days: Good commissioning is gardening not buying. Sowing the seeds and growing all kinds of support.
Also: decision making including commissioning is a very white space which doesn’t reflect diverse communities. Needs to change.

📢This afternoon, Our #CareCantWait campaign will also feature in a session about ‘reframing adult social care.’ If you're at the gathering, please do come along and say hello!
adass.bsky.social
The session featured a brilliant and diverse panel of experts by experience, discussing coproduced commissioning, profit, anti-racism, advocacy, changing narratives and older aged self-funders, chaired by Andy McCabe.
adass.bsky.social
She added that it felt like a real moment and opportunity to hold on to all the challenges but lean into the hope and possibility that a new commission brings.
adass.bsky.social
In the session, The Casey Commission Suggestion Time, ADASS President, @jessmcp.bsky.social, said that we may have had other commissions before but that too many of us are not getting the care we need when we need it and some of us aren’t getting any care at all.

We’re delighted to be back at @socialcarefuture.bsky.social gathering in Manchester, focusing on national policy and how to transform adult social care, with members of the #CaseyCommission in attendance.

New #CareCantWait story!

Jacqui cares for her son Joshua, who has Down syndrome & autism, and now also needs support herself.

Getting the right support hasn't been easy, but having choice & control over their care has made all the difference.

4 in 5 of us will need adult social care in our lifetime.

Yet, without the glue of social care, lives are falling apart.

Long waiting lists, low staff levels, people reaching crisis point.

Together, we can change this.
