VFX Artist. I expect to mostly talk about politics and geek stuff— media, games, comics.

Letting them own the issue does not help. You can't dodge salience when they're sending armies to occupy our cities and harass our citizenry-- the constant barrage of video guarantees it.

Sometimes you have to hit them where they're strong and make their former strengths into liabilities.
To be fair, they could have made any emergency declaration automatically terminate without positive congressional affirmation within, say 30 days.

But it’s definitely a case where the Court has far more jealously guarded Presidential power than Congressional, and now here we are.
That’s not the claim; Debs very famously did in 1920. But being incarcerated limits the liberty of prisoners. This makes it difficult to do rallies, speeches, fundraising and interviews— communication in general. It’s not feasible to run a modern campaign under those circumstances.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

Some point in the 2010s Detroit became a sort of cinematic symbol for decay. Not entirely fair, but it did make for a number of solid horror movies... if something this elegiac counts as horror?

So does this mean you’re going to ditch advocacy for construction of more multifamily housing because it polls at -20%?
Your argument is that they are!

Additionally— incarceration is *physically* very limiting to running a Presidential campaign.
As long as he’s walking around free, the public reads whatever happened as no big deal.
Yes, a guilty verdict would have prevented his election.

The absence of punishment creates the impression of innocence.
Definitely selection bias. A shockingly wide swath of American horror is low budget— it’s one of the secrets to the genre’s success! The ones that look cheap to you are mostly just the ones you noticed, often the ones that went all in on extreme lo fi aesthetics.

About as Freudian a horror movie as you can get without actually invoking Oedipus.

Oddity (2024, first viewing)

Well-shot low-budget Irish horror film that pulls in more directions at once than it can sustain.

I think it may be. But you need something that lets you sac food tokens cheaply to really exploit it. And some way to get 2+ tokens. At that point you’re looking at a 3+ card combo to get land into play to do something else— feels like that might be the sweet spot for a good Johnny card.
Well, sure. One faction is frogs. But the expansion better add adorable bats.
What is the state of the art for live-streaming movies with a group? Watch Party? Teleparty? W2G? Twitch? Youtube?

Hypothetically, if I wanted to end my Halloween movie marathon streaming a shared viewing of the Exorcist, at midnight on Halloween, what would be the best way to do that?
Why could this not be enforced?
They wrote a killer pitch on two levels (survivalism, divided crew), with a side of ‘were so far out things can get really weird’ — but someone up the chain basically wanted them to aim at seven more years of TNG.
Congress is a non-entity and the SCOTUS has neutered the entire judicial branch’s ability to do this.
Host (2020) is a scary low-budget hour about a haunted Zoom call.

Weapons just hit HBO and it’s fantastic.

Weapons (2025, first viewing)

This movie rips. It's a nonlinear series of vignettes where the mystery is clearly supernatural nonsense, but it takes a little while to identify which set of weirdness would add up to this set of facts.

Man. I can’t read that headline without shaking my head about how far Doctor Who has fallen.
Or a glaive, pike, lance or halberd? I get aesthetics but the spear stats are pretty clearly for some non-fighter version of that form factor.
I was also really impressed with Julia Garner, who I have spent perhaps too long thinking of as ‘that kid from The Americans’.
It’s so great! Every performance in that movie is dialed to eleven.

I imagine Coppola standing right off camera, screaming “more! Give me more! More, damn you!”
Halloween Movie 25:
Wicker Man (1973, First viewing)

Iconic folk-horror masterpiece best watched unspoiled if possible (unlikely) as it has a lot of fun subverting the cop thriller genre. Lee is always great.

Could maybe use more bees?
