On a dreary morning this week a few hundred Yellow-headed Blackbirds gathered to perch atop reed clumps in a flooded field, making it look alive as if with wild sunflowers. It was a brief appearance, the likes of which I’ve not seen before. Another of Mother Nature’s special moments. #birds_matter

Fly agaric.

Stunning to look at but poisonous.

It can be spotted on lowland heath around birch and pine, where it is thought to have a mycorrhizal relationship - sharing nutrients between tree roots and the fungi itself.
