We then moved onto Leeds City Hall and occupied the lobby there. After months of being ignored by the Chair of Leeds’ Strategy and Resource Board, Asghar Khan, we managed to secure a meeting to talk about our campaign and put our demands to him.

🔥 Today, 300 ACORN members from across England and Wales travelled to Leeds and shut down a conference that hosted some of Britain’s biggest bailiff firms.

The chair of Leeds strategy and resources board, Asghar Khan, has been ignoring our emails and calls for months.

After 20 minutes of occupying Leeds Civic Hall, we’ve secured a meeting with him for Tuesday to discuss our Bailiff Free Britain campaign.

After shutting down the bailiff conference, we’re now occupying Leeds City Hall. Leeds is one of the worst councils in the country for referrals to bailiffs over council tax debt.

Our message is clear: Leeds is for the people! No bully bailiffs, no scum landlords🔥

Landlords are openly breaking the law to turn homes into year-round Airbnbs while we can’t find anywhere affordable to live.

They’re being allowed to game the system while families are pushed out of their own cities and communities. Enough. Homes are for people, not profiteers.

This is the reality of Section 21 “No Fault” evictions. Landlords kicking people out onto the street because they don’t want to live in run down, unsafe housing.

The ban on Section 21 can’t come soon enough.

The letter calls for an end to the use of bailiffs to collect council tax debt, early support for people in debt before it spirals and an end to imprisonment for non payment.

Nobody should lose their home, belongings or freedom because they fell behind on a bill.
