Hello, #kidlitartpostcard day!

This is my first time doing this, so let me see… My name is A. C. (Anna) Bodnar. I am obsessed with the intersection of nature and fantasy, of light and whimsical colors, and especially dragons. And, of course, little guys going on quests and being brave.

Illustration of a rabbit knight dressed in chainmail and a surcoat looking up at a gothic fun vaulted ceiling as the drawing dissolves into bright watercolors as light streams through the tall windows. @acbodnarart Illustration of a large snake curled around the columns of a ruined, round temple as two small voles confront it, one brave and the other cowering. @acbodnarart Illustration of two ermines in a pillow fort. One is curled up asleep and the other is reading and imagining a dragon. @acbodnarart Illustration of a young boy in a red coat standing on the railing of a sailing ship with a color bird flying over his shoulder. In the background is a watercolor seascape with tall cliffs with a city and a castle connected by a bridge. @acbodnarart

Artober Day 14: Burnt

Thinking the word “out” immediately following the word “burnt” does not mean that I am burnt out right now. But it is a constant push and pull, the strain of creating in world where everything is made to feel increasingly meaningless and impotent.

Happy #BookshopDay! Why not get some of your holiday shopping done early? Order or pre-order books from your local indie before the busy rush?

Psst: you can include this animated gif in your own Bluesky posts - when searching for a gif, look for [at-sign]debbieohi + keyword (like bookstore)

An artist at work carving her new friend, an ice dragon.

And me painting with new brushes in Procreate creating art that makes my heart sing.

Artober Day 9: Hive

The lines are a little muddled: I started drawing with no clear final vision in mind, just the concept (the Thriae + Hollow Knight). I might return to the idea another time and improve the clarity of the line work. We’ll see 🤷‍♀️

#scbwiartober2025 #kidlitart
Sketchbook page showing a brush pen line art of three bee-women sitting on tall stools, long frantic draping from them, and some sort of smoke or mist curling up from below with a honeycomb lattice in the background. It is drawn atop a blot of watercolor that fades from a desaturated blue at the bottom to a warm orange. Text at the bottom reads: Hive - Oct. 9th | SCBWI Artober 2025 | @acbodnarart

Naturally, Barbie as Rapunzel is the best OG Barbie film (I would sing that song to my hairbrush and leave on the window sill at night in the hopes that I would wake up in the morning to discover a magical paintbrush that could create both portals and ball gowns), but P&P is a banger.

Artober Day 4: Birthmark

I smudged it 😫

Why am I eternally so impatient with an eraser??

And yes, this is inspired by the 2004 classic: Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper, why do you ask?

I should have had more objects caught in the light, a silver of a room, a sense of place, rather than just an awkward table, and everything should have had normal shadows except for one that was different, that was looking out from the dark with eyes.

Only three days in, and we have come across what makes Artober/Inktober challenges so hard for me: I do not like to show my work until it is in a state that I am happy with. But that’s not what a daily art challenge is about. Inevitably, you end up sharing art that you are not satisfied with.
