So again, if someone contacts you out of the blue and suggests you reach out to a literary agent, check the email address they give you against what's on the agent's website. The only valid email domain for me is abliterary.com.

Someone bought the domain anniebomke.com and is using it to catfish authors. I was able to look up the owner of this domain, and they are based in Turkey. Brian Cook appears to be a real person, who is another victim of this catfish.

Ok, now a third author has come to me saying they were referred by someone. Now the person referring me is Brian Cook, a retired literary agent in Australia, and this "Brian" tells the author to email me at [email protected]. This is not my email address.

I was awarded a Ditmar for Best Short Story of 2025 for BELLOW OF THE STEAMSHIP COW and another for LET THE CAT IN, the podcast I co-host with Kaaron Warren and J. Ashley-Smith. Ditmars have been awarded annually since 1969, and are basically the Australian Hugos. Congrats all. Deeply honoured.

Ok, I've now had two authors email me today saying they got emails from someone named Ashley Gille who told them to contact me at this fake email address. If you get an email like this, don't respond. You can email me at the address on my website and I will confirm it's a scam.

Anyways, if you get an email from a stranger telling you to contact an agent about your book (whether it's me or another agent), check the agent's website to confirm this is the right address. Email the agent at the address on their website to determine the legitimacy of the message.

Apparently, there is someone scamming self-published authors, telling them to reach out to me at this email address: [email protected]. This is not my email. I'm not sure what this person's endgame is. Do they impersonate me at this address and ask writers for money?
