JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

This particular performance style of condescension already feels dated to me, like a modern descendent of James II demanding a seat on the 6 train during rush hour.
Q: "Why are White House officials…meeting with Rep. Boebert in an effort to try to get her to not sign this petition calling for the release of the [Epstein] files?"

Leavitt: "I'm not going to detail conversations that took place in the situation room."

NEW: ProPublica examined months of Fox News’ coverage and reviewed over 700 videos posted on social media.

The network used five-year-old footage, mislabeled other dates and implied footage from elsewhere was in Portland.
“Riots Raging”: The Misleading Story Fox News Told About Portland Before Trump Sent Troops
After reviewing coverage from the network and hours of social media videos that preceded Trump’s decision, ProPublica found that Fox’s portrayal of “Portland rioters” routinely instigating violence was misleading.

Hegseth: "We don't need to be a military of beardos anymore. Do you know how many troops claim to be Nordic Pagan? No, suddenly it's become this real fake religious affiliation inside the Pentagon where troops came to be Nordic Pagan so they can grow a beard and nobody challenges them on it."

Donald Trump is Joe Biden now

POTUS's job approval on prices is where Biden's was during peak inflation in 2022-23. Voters say 2:1 that Trump has made the economy worse. Oh, and consumer sentiment among independents hit a new all-time low in November, www.gelliottmorris.com/p/donald-tru...

NYT and Guardian reporting of this significant news leaves me wondering whether the editors at either newspaper really understands he meaning of the word "allege." It's completely inappropriate in this context. Epstein is stating things based on his knowledge to a co-conspirator. Not "alleging".

I think one of the under-acknowledged negative impacts of both Trump admins on higher ed has been radicalizing 'humanities' and 'social science' scholars in new ways, compelling the explicit and intentional collapse of the distinction between scholarship and activism, in ways that impoverish both.

Also being ‘excellent at math’ in pre-K is fake. The kid could win a Fields Medal someday or get Cs in calc 1 and the latter is much more often the fate of 4 year olds onto whom weird adults project ‘excellence’ in things it’s impossible to be excellent at when you’re 4.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

It’s a democracy crisis, Senator. You ought to know that.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

Relax, Dick, no one but the 8 of you fools thinks the promise of a vote you extracted from a gang of ill repute would be worth anything even if it does happen.
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

“Anyone who helps me try to steal an election gets a pardon” is perhaps the most corrupt thing to happen in American history.

That “conservatives” have simply accepted this as the price of admission is the greatest moral and intellectual humiliation.

The most important point about senate Democrats caving in the shutdown negotiation is that Democrats may think they have a deal, but they do not. There are no 'deals' with bad-faith actors who prove they will not hold up their end. It's functionally like saying you struck a deal with Santa Clause.

A whole other form of partial and political justice. Trump pardons list of allies who worked to reverse his election loss in 2020. Many of them, especially Mark Meadows, know where the bodies are buried. A vile miscarriage of justice. Includes Rudy, Sidney Powell, John Eastman, & Ken Cheseboro.
