The attorney will defend tenants against eviction in cases filed in the Stanley Mosk, Chatsworth, Van Nuys, Pasadena, West Covina and Antelope Valley courthouses. The attorney will work directly with clients and engage in all stages of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motions, hearings, settlement, administrative hearings, and trial.In this role, you would report to the Associate Supervising Attorney. This position is exempt.What You’ll Do· Provide counsel and advice on a variety of housing matters and represent tenants in administrative hearings with local housing authorities and through trial in unlawful detainer proceedings.· Manage a varied caseload.· Operate weekly “know your rights” clinics for tenants.· Prepare educational materials.· Participate in community events.· Collaborate with pro bono partners.· Work with student volunteers and pro bono volunteers.· This position is designated as hybrid. At CCLA, we provide quality civil legal representation and equal access to justice, regardless of their income. CCLA’s vision is a community where everyone has the legal resources to thrive. CCLA is currently seeking a hardworking, compassionate Attorney Healthcare & Public Benefits for our Senior Law Unit. The Attorney will  provide legal assistance and representation to seniors, aged 60 and older, throughout Broward County regarding healthcare and public benefits related issues. The Attorney will be responsible for Social Security, SSI, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP or food stamps) and access to healthcare cases. The Senior Law Attorney also provides legal assistance and representation to seniors regarding eligibility and access to services for Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long-Term Care, and financial assistance programs.Position Duties Include:Provides legal advice and assistance on eligibility and access to services for Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long-Term-Care, and financial assistance programs, including representing clients at Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) and Department of Children and Families (DCF) hearings in front of a Hearing Officer.Conducts client interviews to gather information, respond to client related phone calls, conducts discovery, investigates fact situations, reviews agency notices, reviews medical records, gathers and evaluates evidence, and interviews healthcare providers and other witnesses.Advises and represents clients in Social Security cases, including representing clients at hearings before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), in Appeals Council appeals, and potentially in Federal Court as applicable.Advises and represents clients in SNAP/TANF cases as needed.Advises and represents senior client on eligibility and access to services for Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long- Term Care, and financial assistance programs, including representing clients at hearings.Performs legal research, completes forms, and drafts letters, emails, memoranda, pleadings, and briefs. Develops strategies and arguments in preparing and presenting cases and assessing relevance of evidence. Analyzes probable outcome of cases and engages in troubleshooting and prioritizing cases.Complies with all program requirements, including efficient case management, time-keeping, completion of timely reports, professional development, and relevant CLE courses and other mandated trainings.Performs community outreach events in person and/or virtually, as well as, on social media and conducts educational trainings for staff, clients, and community providers, in accordance with CCLA’s outreach policy, and as needed. Responsible for supervising paralegals, interns, and volunteers who have been assigned to cases within their practice areas.  Communicates case progress, status, issues and outcomes to Supervising Attorney.Performs all other duties as requested by Management, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s).Position Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
