The downside of being a solo chess hobbyist: feeling so much over the news of Daniel Naroditsky's death but not having folks IRL to commiserate with.
It occurs to me today that Tagalog has no direct word for "lonely." There's nag-iisa, but that just means "alone," a fact and not an emotion. And I always had people to be with growing up if I wanted so I never had any reason to use the word "lonely." This realization makes me feel a little lonely.
Thinking about how both Bluesky and Twitter evoke the outdoors but spending too much time on them prevents us from being outdoors. Go outside!
Good morning. I've been internetting less and gardening more... here's my first teeny bouquet of the season....
The irony of being invited to a trans healthcare panel the same day I'm going through a Kafkaesque nightmare trying to access hormones after moving and switching medical providers.
Hi I'm continuing my nerdhood with some thoughts inspired by chess on how to maintain writing concentration in the face of strong emotions: open.substack.com/pub/fairest/...

I've been gardening and one of my favorite things about it is all the new words! Lobellas and ranunculus and nasturtium and snapdragon and fescue and on and on and on!
Trying to write merchless but it keeps autocorrecting to merciless and yes, that is also me.

On Saturday I’m taking @1demerith.bsky.social’s class on movement for writers. I’m always trying to discern how much of my work should come from deep in my body, and how much from my regular dopey brain. On Saturday, at least, we’ll try the body.

Illustration of American healthcare: I'm supposed to have a free yearly physical through my insurance, but because my doctor and I talked about me being albino and trans, this is not strictly covered by the physical and I was charged $200.
Being edited by Hillary Jordan - @scribblegirl.bsky.social - was one of my most fruitful learning experiences as a writer. So I highly recommend y'all check out her upcoming workshop in Rhinebeck, NY - sounds dreamy! www.eomega.org/workshops/fi...

Good read: For those artists out there focused on creative resistance, @1demerith.bsky.social's essay is a helpful reminder of the essential balance between personal calm and political engagement. Thank you, Meredith!

Every day, for 100 days, I’m reading an essay on creative resistance, thanks to @writingco-lab.bsky.social. I like this one in particular, on balancing mindfulness with social action by @1demerith.bsky.social

Trans folks have proud legacies in many cultures, and that's something every trans person can take heart and courage in.
A good day to remind whoever needs reminding that trans folks have existed for thousands of years and will continue to exist for generations to come, and no speech or order will change that.
