I try to leave things better than I found them. Historically computers, these days more bicycles, coffee, and cocktails. [email protected] (Gabriel R) PGP: 18C3 BD77 124B D5C9 9B6D E4E3 2BAB 8E18 1372 03A4

Thanks, keystone.bike, for taking a Quick look at this rim, and confirming that, yeah, it might just be too beat up by the years to ever come into true, and that’s why that spoke snapped with a ~¼ turn.

Now my task is transferring the cogs and glowyzoey.com lights to the replacement wheel…
Every single time I read something about David Byrne, he’s doing the best thing he possibly could with his celebrity. Dude kicks ass. He showed up to this rally in a city where he doesn’t live on a bike. C’mon, man!

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, in Philadelphia for a 3-night stop on his latest tour, joined the “No Kings” protest in Old Cilly Saturday to show support for the anti-Trump movement and snap a few photos with fans along the way👇Several marchers posted photos of themselves on social media with Byrne, who rode a bike during the march, which went from City Hall to Independence Mall.Ryan Godfrey, a 54-year-old software solutions engineer, was among those who chatted with Byrne, shortly after surreptitiously taking a photo of Byrne behind him.Godfrey had just attended one of Byrne’s concerts and recognized the singer when he saw him on his bicycle with marchers on Market Street.“I knew he was a big bike guy — and we had just seen him on Thursday,” Godfrey said. He decided to introduce himself.“I said, ‘Hi, I really appreciated your concert the other night. It was amazing; thank you so much for that.’ He said, ‘Of course, thanks for enjoying it,’ and then I said, ‘And also thank you very much for being here today — this is very important, that you’re doing this,’” Godfrey recalled.“And he said, ‘Of course. I wanted to be here for this.’”He said Byrne was anything but aloof with marchers.“He was very genial, very kind and very friendly and open to interactions from everyone around him,” he said.Another fan quoted Byrne in the sign they carried in the march, then got to hold the sign next to a laughing Byrne. The message? “Love & acceptance are now ‘punk ideologies.’” Byrne has been critical of Trump both in his music and in interviews and writings. During Saturday’s show, he mentioned the “No Kings” rally, drawing applause from the crowd, according to social media posts. One Bluesky poster said Byrne — who can be seen carrying a camera during the protest — showed photos of himself and his band at the march on the stage backdrop during Saturday night’s concert. read: @phillyinquirer @davidbyrneofficialView all comments

I guess failing to execute on anything your base wants means you don’t get financial support.

Fuck the DNC anyway: from a global viewpoint, they’re basically right-wing apologists.
Per new filings:

RNC cash on hand: $83,895,993.23

DNC cash on hand: $14,946,622.29

The DNC’s cash on hand hasn’t been this low since 2020.
Okay, bike nerds. Last night my Lezyne floor pump’s valve-end popped apart, and reassembling just the parts I found isn’t enough, as trying to attach it to a Schrader valve stem just screws it back apart. What am I missing here?
This is most immediately about a bicycle component I'm trying to reassemble, but it's general advice re: mechanical stuff (especially for folks used to software dev, where you've always got the prior versions in source control, unless you're insane): Take. A. Picture. Before. You. Disassemble. It.
(I started intending to major in English, kinda bounced off the internal politics of the department, ended up with a Computer Science degree. Very glad that the latter major required Linguistics courses, and the College required a variety of courses in other disciplines. Also: Greek & German.)
This @speeed.co video is wide-ranging, across many areas of study, about which areas of study people most & least regret. And rules.

Fwiw, I attended Swarthmore: would've been happy at many liberal arts colleges. Care more about Swat's proximity to a Philly than its fanciness.

Oops.

Up side: guess I’m pulling the rear chain rings off, affording me the opportunity to delete the dork disk and give the chain rings a deep degreasing.
(I do recommend attendance. Food: also good.)
Forest & Main Fishtown, where my friend @landersdrinks.bsky.social is GM, opened tonight.
Friends have asked me what it's like to go up in the St. Louis Arch (I grew up there, yes I have: once is probably enough for anybody), or tell me that they have. I do think you should visit STL, but @milesintransit.com has you covered on that Arch experience (around 7m10s).
