It's interesting as historically GW wasn't afraid to use the Warhammer system for other IPs (Lone Wolf, Dredd, Moorcock), or nudge-nudge wink to other fandoms (Glorantha, Middle-earth, D&D) or even much later expand into Historical. But $pace Marine models, not 'game design' is the driver.

It's a symptom of most monobrand fandoms. When so much lore (marketing content) has to be consumed to have setting mastery (IP knowlege), fans (consumers) don't have the required reading in the genre (competing products) to make wider observations. Corporates create their own captive audiences.

That's a Broo - the drawing is based on "tentacle" model from Citadels Runequest Broo range from the First Citadel Compendium (1983), so the whole image is Gloranthan really.

Hyborian Portrait - Valannus the Unspeakable, from Slingshot #42 (1972) by D. Gates - of or named after a R.E.H. character? Unfortunately the SoA Slingshot index PDF doesn't list illustrators, but could be the same hand as the G&P illustration, certainly some Ambrus influence there.
