The Hebrew Free Loan Association usually requires proof of creditworthiness and a demonstration of need. Be forewarned that they may ask for guarantors.

Qualified applicants are eligible for interest-free loans of up to $10k to help cover relocation costs.
Jewish orgs Keshet and the Hebrew Free Loan Association are giving out interest-free loans to LGBTQ+ folks who need to re-locate but can’t afford it. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE JEWISH.

Thanks!

It's really tasty, but the pumpkin spice will be too strong for anyone in this house that isn't me. 😃
Disgusting. This is a "masks off" moment for Adams.

Close to a million Muslims live in NYC.
Eric Adams, endorsing Cuomo: "New York can't be Europe, folks ... Those Islamic extremisms that are burning churches in Nigeria, that are destroying communities in Germany, that have taken over the logical thinkings. And that's what I'm fighting for."
Finally out of the oven. It smells delicious.

I'm not staying up long enough for it to cool so I can cut into it though.
Thank you. That's good to know!

Interesting! I've never tried them as an ingredient in banana bread. I was mostly concerned they would overwhelm the banana flavor rather than enhance it, as cinnamon does.
Both of those spice mixes contain the nutmeg and cinnamon I need. But they also contain things like ground cloves.

I'm going to hope i've inadvertently created something exceptionally tasty.
It really has been a miserable week.

We are now out of cinnamon.

I have Penzey's apple pie spice mix and Spice Islands pumpkin pie spice mix.

Using the latter. Dough is rising in the loaf pan now.

However this turns out, l tried my best.
Roll out the dough.

Take out the nutmeg, brown sugar and cinnamon.

1/2 cup brown sugar into a bowl. 1/4 tsp nutmeg.

Cinnamon.

There was a massive crack of thunder when I started measuring a tablespoon of cinnamon. I startle easily.

Dropped the cinnamon. It broke. Powder everywhere.

*sigh*

I mean, I expect non-Jews to be ignorant about Judaism.

But a Buddhist advocating for death camps is a new one.
Buddhist death camps.

For Priests.

what?
I love banana bread. What i'd eventually like to do is have a sourdough starter that survives in my house and make a sourdough banana yeast bread.

But first, I need to make a decent banana yeast bread.

Adding the cinnamon swirling ensures my kids will eat it. Even if the results are meh.
This project has not had the results I want. The dough is usually too filled with moisture. It doesn't come out well. Messy.

Today, I added an extra 1.5 cups of flour. Which would normally be a disaster. Dough is still sticky, but much more solid.

It's rising now. Guess I'll see what happens.
I am making a cinnamon swirling banana bread. Have been working on this recipe for a few weeks.

Most banana breads are made with baking powder or soda as a rising agent. They make it a "quick" bread, which has more of a cake texture.

I've been experimenting with using yeast instead.

someone should let her know it was a nazi tattoo.

she might have missed the news.
....i uh, regret to inform you....
Maybe we could encourage some local billionaires to take shifts observing the facade from street level.

Need some of the progressive Christians on here to take their own in hand.
That is why God took his message to the Gentiles. After the Jews stoned Stephen, a converted Jew who preached Christ & salvation through Him, God left the Jews themselves. For 4,000 years he wrought wonders for them, but in the end they rejected Him.
...pushes is one of the first examples of Christian supercessionism towards Judaism.
He's considered Christianity's first martyr. Story is told in the Acts book of their Bible.

The story's purpose is to basically portray us all as murderers and Christians as merciful and religiously superior. It's one of the more overtly antisemitic stories in their Bible and the narrative it...
But this particular effort feels unique, and much more thoughtful. I'm highly impressed.
Satmar Hasidim typically vote Republican in national elections, but not always. They vary in their endorsements and voting patterns for regional elections.

This sort of thing, outreach in Yiddish by NYC mayoral candidates, has become more common. Adams, DiBlasio and Yang, all tried similar appeals.
While a huge majority of Jews are Democrats, the ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Lubavitch community in Borough Park is a conservative Republican bloc.

However, they're not monolithic, and have been known to vote for non-Republican candidates they believe will best serve their community's interests.
This is brilliant and creative. Written in Hasidic Yiddish, it's colloquially different than the Yiddish my in-laws grew up speaking.

@abbystein.bsky.social created similar flyers for Zohran Mamdani's primary campaign. Am unsure if they did this as well. Read their thread for a partial translation.
Personal open letter by @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social to the Orthodox community in New York City, written in Yiddish - the native language of most Hasidic Jews (and myself).

For now, here are the bold parts translated:

To Orthodox Jewish New Yorkers"
