Now that the Great Exodus is happening...

Hi! I'm Xavier. I'm a 3D character/technical artist who's been in games for over a decade. I've worked on some stuff you've probably heard of and a lot you haven't.

And yes, I am the guy personally responsible for making Rivet jacked.

Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖

I'm sorry, is this dude talking about having a third party LLM generate unverified and untested code that he can execute to access the site he's a programmer for?

Am I fucking hallucinating?

And even if you just want to go with a fantasy version where your thermal goggles can pick up footprints and silhouettes through walls, it's still a fun gameplay element I just want more of

It's like candy

Like, I know a proper NVG setup or whatever does cost like thirty grand, but that's peanuts in the grand scheme of a game budget. You spend that much on a single year of a software license in some cases.

There are some truly phenomenal ways to implement a physically plausible night vision system that by their very nature would result in beautiful noise and distortion, but it's hard to convince someone to spend money on something like that as a gameplay system
xavierck.com
I think it's sad that accurate night vision and thermal vision are so rare in games

I understand how hard it is to implement something physically plausible, but goddamn it'd be fun to have a game where thermal optics were a systemic gameplay element

Or, if you're really feeling spicy, you can give me thirty million and four years and I'll make something that looks like this.

Trust me. I know the right people.

Hi hello here's my pitch for your next best-selling game:

Knights ride planes between planets like they're riding horses between towns, shooting dudes in trench warfare with WWI-era weaponry, and it's all PS2-spec so art takes no time.

Please give me six million dollars and three years thank you.
A very rough sketch of a knight on a small plane shooting bullets ahead while bullets from the ground fly past. The ground is a tiny planet, and another planet is visible in the distance. The sky is bright. Various images of small planets floating in blue sky, globular planets merging together, a torus planet, some weird planes, and some armored characters with WWI-era technology mixed with fantastical scales

Ian if you don't make a 3D print of this I will.

This is a threat.

This is what we grew up with. Of course we like women who could beat us up.
A klingon woman saying "I really am very grateful for all you've done, Quark." Quark is visible to the right side in the frame, facing her. She continues, "That is why I'm going to let you take your hand off my thigh—" "—instead of shattering every bone in your body." Camera cut to Quark with a smile.

Caption reads ( both laughing )

🔆 Bonjour Bluesky ! It's #PortfolioDay !

I'm Antoine "Innoh", a 🇫🇷 illustrator.
I draw #fantasy scenes, characters and creatures!
I'm always available for collab', ttrpg zines or other cool projects!

🔆 Here is my portfolio: innoh.art

See you!
Two drawings. The first one depicts a giant robot towering above a ruined town. The second one, a kind-of glamourous necromancer! Two drawings. The first one depicts a warrior, casting a spell, wearing luxury fabrics. The second one, a commander in armor, with technological enhancements.

#PortfolioDay already? Don't mind if I do:
These models are all physical props that I built, painted and photographed myself. Don't let anyone tell you motion-control shots are a lost art, yet.
A model of the TIE Phantom from the Star Wars expanded universe A model of the J-109 Atlas, an original starship designed by me. A model of the Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser from Star Wars: Andor, along with a tiny Corellian-style transport for scale A model of the Taiidan Attack Bomber from the Homeworld series of games, hanging from a docking clamp.

Here are 543 images (1.5GB) of items at the Philadelphia Museum of Art arms and armor exhibit

You're free to use them for anything, even commercially. I tried to focus on details not usually represented in available reference material

drive.google.com/file/d/1NRzg...

Here's a small sampling:
A closeup view of an ornate cuirass and tasset, showing heart-shaped designs along the edges of the metal panels. An extremely ornate ceremonial halberd head showing etched and blackened designs with various plants, mythical creatures, and heraldic designs. A closeup of the shoulder intersection of the cuirass, pauldron, and bevor of a piece of 1500s field armor. Some ornate etching of the crucifixion is visible in the lower right corner on the cuirass.

Time for another reference dump!

This zip file contains 2,566 photos (6.58 GB) from the Metropolitan Museum of Art arms and armor collection. I tried to focus on the types of details you don't see in most available reference, like hinges and fasteners.

Enjoy!

A shot of an eggplant-shaped samurai helmet sitting on a wooden stand in a museum display case. It's made of darkened metal and has gold trim and accents. A closeup shot of some buttons, fasteners, and ties on a small section of a samurai armor set's front chest plate. There are various ornate patterns, complex knots, and overlapping pieces. A closeup shot of the thumb and forefinger of a European steel gauntlet inlaid with gold. It has bronze rivets and a white leather glove under the overlapping finger armor pieces. A closeup shot of an extremely ornate double barreled shotgun's firing mechanism and trigger. The hammers are shaped like squirrels holding nuts and there is floral filigree everywhere.

Hello #PortfolioDay

I'm Xavier and I do lots of art stuff!

Not pictured: shaders, team leadership, workflow and tech art design and documentation, several square miles of Excel sheets, a few billion pages and hours of videos of competitive analysis, etc.
