*ahem* now for a professional one.

I am excited to announce the publication of The Digital 'Anon', a new digital edition of Virginia Woolf's final, unpublished essay drafts which makes this remarkable corpus available as an OA resource.

It is available here: www.digital-anon.com.

Even putting to one side the sheer inanity of this, how might he expect to do that? Reach into individual classrooms and throw things at students using singular ‘they’?

The chancellorship is an unpaid p/t gig where you gladhand donors and trot about in a silly robe once in a while.

While language-shaming for political gain is on the agenda, can we please throw things at politicians who use the construction ‘do + noun’ when there’s a perfectly good verb, like ‘doing tax cuts’.

It makes them sound like they’re speaking through 2010s-era machine translation.

And once they’ve barred every neurodivergent person from ever settling in the UK, what then? Go to work on those of us who are already here?

Performatively reading in the cafe, but wearing white gloves so I'm still venerating the Book As Object, with a t-shirt saying "I know archivists don't wear gloves" so people know the gloves are performative.

Acid-free paper is the best archival technology we've managed to invent.

(Parchment and vellum are pretty durable, but medievalist friends say that they get a bit stinky over the centuries)

The kind of weird that this thread describes is very rarely tolerated in contemporary Britain. Imagine art appreciation class in UK primary schools, actively promoting aesthetic self-formation!

Beyond that small circle within which whimsy is permitted to function , it’s deeply small-and-large-c conservative curtain twitching that views anything outside the normate as contamination to be expelled, viz. the aggressive policing of gender boundaries, the horror-show around refugees.

Yes, source. Britain is tolerant of the kind of eccentricity you discuss. This is a pleasant enough whimsy that functions within an incredibly narrow set of parameters. It’s a whimsy that doesn’t threaten or upset or even expand.
