![2018 arrived and with that, the first time we'd really switch political party in presidency, congress and states governors after almost 100 years. One of their main policies was austerity, which meant a lot of budget cuts and dependencies getting closed. This directly affected us, not only because of a general economic uncertainty in the country, but also my dad got all of his projects either delayed or cancelled. Fortunately I kept my job, and I actually started my second one in January 2019 and third one in July, right after graduating high school. I made like 3x more in that job than in the first one, it was full time for the summer. But all the money I was being paid I gave it to my parents for rent and food, as my dad was still basically jobless after 8 months. [Depiction of me handing several bills to my dad, looking annoyed]
Of course he never bought a house or apartment all this time, we rented. When I was 3 we moved to the suburbs of Mexico City, rent was (is) ridiculously cheaper, but we had to drive for 25 minutes to the closest Metro station, which still was in the suburbs. [A small route map]
Not even then we managed to stay in the same house for too long. After my brother was born, we moved 3 times in less than 8 years before coming back to the city in August 2019 that I started college. Well, actually, there's a fourth thing that could happen with that money. You guessed it: lending it to my dad.
That's right, I wasn't even 10 years old and he was
already asking his own son for money. Look, I understand how 2008 was economically, but come on, he already had several good projects for years to not have savings. (He quit his job in 2007 when my sister was born as he was getting clients for freelance). [There’s a small illustration of my hand handling a $500 pesos bill to my dad’s hand]
And that trend never quite ended. When I finished middle school, I had two choices: stay in the same private institution I went since 1st grade, or take an admission exam for public high school. I chose the exam as I really wanted to become an accountant, and IN was perfect for it. It's a public college which, besides university and post graduate, also has high schools, which give you a “lite" technician degree besides your normal high school degree, so you have more job opportunities before even starting college.
Back on topic, that was the best decision I could've made, as by then, we were already 3 siblings, and there was absolutely no way he could've handled all he did, PLUS MY TUITION.
