(4/4) In The Netherlands, I could get away with using only English, but it was a personal choice to try and learn the language and customs of this country. But we expect to be able to stay here. This isn't a pitstop in our lives.

(3/4) People with real hardships (asylum seekers) are overburdened with upending their lives - so I expect that integration isn't the first priority for most of them. I still see immigrants as improving the culture of a country even without integration.

(2/4) I sincerely want to invest in becoming part of the Dutch community. We've been taking lessons/tutoring since we got here. But I don't think or expect that is the case for everyone.

(1/4) I concur with most of this. My wife and I emigrated in January to The Netherlands - and this process was relatively easy for us. But we were starting a business and are pretty anglo.

I've had to review my thoughts about immigration in general as seen from the other side.
