thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

I learned last night that one of my cousins was named after me. I was named after my dad’s favourite uncle, Eric

I have some questions after reading this story...

“Our pilots are off to the U.S. in the next few months to start training,” she added. “The infrastructure is going up. We have airfields being extended to get ready, so we are definitely not in a position where we are waiting.”
‘We are moving forward’: top soldier says F-35 preparations continue despite government review
Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan says the Canadian military is moving ahead with its preparations for F-35 fighter jets despite an ongoing government review of the purchase.

It is BIZARRE to hear this woman actually making sense when she's been a nutbar her entire time in congress.

The fact that she's starting to make sense while the Dems are choosing to instead do MORE bloody infighting is utterly insane.

WTF are the Dems even THINKING?

MTG is running circles around the most progressive democrats and I’m wondering how they let that happen

You see how the Democrats treat progressives cause I see zero policy changes to reflect the reality of a lot of ppl’s lives. Neoliberals run the party

Yeah. And I know ppl are going to say “she’s not genuine”. Neither is AOC

As long as their capital accumulation isn’t threatened they don’t give a fuck who is in office.
These are the same ppl who called the police on students protesting genocide so they can fuck all the way off

Liberals will see the politicians on their "team" literally send the cops to brutalize peaceful protesters, and exclaim, "No, that's not fascism!" They don't care that cops murder innocent people all the time. They love licking fascist boots, while attacking everyone that calls them out on it.

Fascism is not bipartisan, the people insisting this are the latter day version of this:

The Goonies were 1985. I highly mathematically doubt that you would’ve watched it the first time around

No there’s no such thing as a prostate exam for the president of the United States. That doesn’t even make sense

I doubt it was without warning. The man has the best healthcare in the world and a private doctor with all sorts of premium medical staff. Am I supposed to believe they all missed prostate cancer? A cancer that is the #1 in men so I would think a prostate exam yearly would catch it

The promise of AI is being weaponized against labour. The fear they are fomenting has to do with AI replacing labour. From what I understand it’s not nearly that developed but that doesn’t stop investors from pumping more money into AI

What's that saying? The west brings lectures and Chinese bring roads and hospitals.

Even if you think that China's reasons for this are selfish, the fact is that they're making allies of people whom the west has spend centuries exploiting. This is political chess, and China's winning.
wickdchiq.bsky.social
I’m not saying China is good. Nope.
What I’m saying is nature abhors a vacuum and the West left the Global South ripe for picking because they didn’t think much of them. And now the minerals the West need for tech are more and more in the hands of China
The West already lost
wickdchiq.bsky.social
So I don’t know which drugs these western leaders are on but they already lost the game. And they did so by building up the global south—the area most disrespected by the West and ripe for plunder.
