Like many I am not satisfied with the current state of things. Not in my city, my country, the world.

It is easy to focus on the immediacy of this dissatisfaction, all the things that feel 'wrong'.

Worse, it is easy to allow that to define our reality, to focus only on pushback/1

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1066, Harold Godwinson, the last Saxon king of England, may've taken an arrow in the eye at the #BattleOfHastings. A victorious #WilliamTheBastard rebranded himself "the Conqueror", giving us centuries of Norman French rule and this confusing language.

If theres no such thing as stare decisis there is no functioning legal system. And it's not exactly new. It developed shortly after the Norman conquest in 1066. If you've ever heard the term "common law." That's it. The law created by various courts using the same precedent.

959 years ago, on the 14th of October 1066, the Battle of Hastings took place. Harold Godwinson (king of England for 282 days) died in the battle that would turn William from Bastard to Conqueror. Battle Abbey's high altar is said to be in the exact location of Harold II's death. #otd #history 🗃️
