What little power you have to sway gov’t is exerted via the institutions that you touch: your church, your union, your employer, establishments that you frequent, etc. These institutions tend to cleave to the status quo until enough (3.5%) of their individual constituents disrupt and demand change.

Hot take: voting should be mandatory with exemptions. Much harm is done to society by an apathetic and uninformed voter base, and whether you have voted or not would cease to be an interesting mote of data in an otherwise vast publicly-available sea of information about you.
