Taking a Leap
Earlier this spring, I was contemplating my life, you know, just some light thinking.

Nuthatch, Inverted

These little guys are fun to watch. Direction and gravity seem meaningless.

Gravity is a habit that is hard to shake off. - Terry Pratchett
Anyone who has lost something they thought was theirs forever finally comes to realize that nothing really belongs to them. - Paulo Coelho
“Reading The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse” was a reminder that appreciation comes from understanding on a deeper level things like art to where our food comes to mole holes...the only exception would be spiders.
Just kidding, I appreciate spiders too...from a distance.
Sitting and thinking about how to channel Eric Carle’s work “The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse”. Inspired I thought about painting a red dog, then realized how unoriginal in the children’s book world that would be.

To finish up a delicious week indulging in "The Rabbit Listened," I leave you with this quote...

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another’s world. - Plato
I am just blown away by how much children’s books and writing about them are making me happy, a little island of peace in an ocean of chaos.
I’m working on my empathy today. There is a plate of chocolate chip cookies that my daughter baked in the kitchen calling me, and I’m like “I’m here for you…I’m listening.”
In “The Rabbit Listened”, the animals attempted to show empathy in their own individual ways, but it was only the rabbit who met the child where they were at. My most touching demonstration of empathy was when someone cried alongside me in my pet grief. What moment of empathy stands out for you?
I just read this book, and it was gorgeous. Loved it! And also was unaware it was a banned book. I have a suspicion but the stupidity of it makes me reticent to say it out loud.
In "The Blue House" by Phoebe Wahl, a home represents security and solidity. For myself one thing that makes me feel secure is a full fridge and freezer. I recognize and acknowledge my privilege in this. What represents security for you?
Looks like beautiful illustrations. I will have to check it out! =) Love that it's Canadian.
Change is hard, especially when you’re prone to pity parties like me. Reading a great book makes it easier. This week’s children’s book recommendation comes from the wonderful Phoebe Wahl in her book The Blue House.

Have you read the children's book The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld? It might be about Wally. =)
Yes, I just read this and it was so spot on!
