What's the best kind of apple? I don't know. Taste one, see if you like it.
Behind that installer window, there's a whole desktop environment, in which you can play with settings, browse the web, try things out, and generally get your bearings. If you take the usb drive out and restart the computer, windows will still be right where you left it.
One of the best things about switching to linux is you can try most distros without comitting. follow the distro installation instructions up to the point you boot from a usb stick.
Personally, when asked, I recommend Mint to new nontechincal windows-expats. Its easy to install, laid out in a familiar way, and decently well supported. It runs great on an old pc. These things are also true of several other distros, but too many recommendations is as bad as none.
Switching to linux means trading that onboarding advantage away for greater freedom and control. I think it's a good trade, but linux advocates should be aware of it. Its worth a lot more to nontechnical users, who want their computer to do their computing tasks without worrying about how.
Ive seen a bunch of windows-tired but linux-averse commenters complain that the choice of distro is confusing, that everyone has a different recommendation. That's a real issue! For a monolithic OS like windows, you know theres only one way to get it, so you won't mess it up.
Enthusiasts should feel comfortable trying a bunch of varieties; switching costs are low, and it can be fun to experiment.
On the other hand, nontechnical users can rest assured that while the tastes differ, there are numerous popular options that provide a comparably satisfactory experience.
'Whats the best #linux distro?'

What's the best kind of apple?

There are outright wrong answers (red delicious) and answers that make sense for bakers but not to pack in a kid's lunchbox (granny smith)

But there are a bunch of good all-rounders, distinguished mainly by taste. (Gala, cosmic crisp)

You know how billionaires end up with severe cognitive deficits as a result of becoming surrounded by yes men who constantly tell them their every idea is genius? What if we made a bot that just does that to everyone. I think that would be a good idea.

I havent used mint but i use pop-os which is also ubuntu/debian based, no issue running the overwhelmong majority of steam games that i've tried. Sometimes you have to pick a different version of proton but its not hard tinkering.

I dont know how much mint differs but id be surptised if its much
i may be crashing out
