Mask off moment for Edgewater NIMBYs

This morning, a trans person at the zoning committee told their story about being displaced from Missouri, and how we need to build more housing for other people like them who will seek refuge in Chicago. They were heckled by the crowd.
chicagotrans-plant.bsky.social
Says they need to add more housing or rents will only continue to climb and people will not be able to move here and be safe as they need to be.

An audience member yells at Alison to "leave Edgewater alone" and is escorted out of the room.

The only trans speaker was heckled by far the most.

Grid scale batteries are changing our electricity system. Excellent new visual story on batteries in FT today shows just how far this technology has evolved.

Fasten your seatbelts, this is just the beginning.

The reality is that for the guys who say stuff like this, being a cop in Chicago or New York is a great gig. The pay is good, benefits are great, and they get to spend 40 hours a week doing what they love (sitting in their cars watching YouTube videos on their phones)

I've written pretty critical stuff about Brandon Johnson in Chicago but cops said this exact same thing before his election and afaik it has not transpired at all

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

For a while there every time a group of college students raised their voices they were accused of violating the first amendment via ol’ Hecklers veto. Thank god free speech is safe now

peter thiel (clutching chrome plated human skull) tell me oracle... does the world end in fire, or ice? the passionate flames of the activist thunberg, or the frozen doom yudkowski demands?

chatGPT: ✨ What a great question, Peter! ✨

Let's break that tough Q down 🕺, in your favorite epic style:

Foreboding stuff from the lawyer arguing in favor of military occupation of Illinois

Hamilton: “We can’t predict what might be necessary.”
wallace.bsky.social
He appeared on a FedSoc panel in 2023 titled "Do States Enjoy a Special Solicitude?" One potentially fruitful exercise for a legal journalist would be to compare what he said about states rights then to what he's saying now in court.

The DOJ attorney arguing in favor of military occupation of Illinois is a Stanford FedSoc guy. Go figure

DOJ lawyer Eric Hamilton is now up. He says Chicago is seeing a "brazen new form of hostility from rioters targeting federal law enforcement. They are not protesters. They are the violent resistance to duly enacted immigration laws."

Curious what happens to all the adjacent parking (which presumably was meant to serve the hospital). It doesn't seem to be part of the offering

"we may be lame losers, but we're also morally vacuous, AND we suck at writing!" a lot to get into one headline!
wallace.bsky.social
No criticism for this headline from the Chicago Tribune editorial board. It's a perfect headline, actually

Bill Belichick should coach a high school team next. His ability to connect with the younger generation would give him a huge edge
ollieconnolly.bsky.social
Per sources: Bill Belichick has discussed buyout options with North Carolina’s hierarchy. Belichick has signaled a willingness to trigger his own $1 million buyout if he can find a soft landing with another team or in media

When I follow you I am saying that if you started a religious cult with you as the primary object of worship I would join it
joshuajfriedman.com
The "follow" dichotomy I always struggle with is "I want to see every single thing you post" vs. "I want you to know that I like and respect you." My Following feed is so overstuffed as it is, but I hate the idea that people I don't follow back might think that I don't appreciate them!
rose.bsky.team
The "follow" button confounds "I'm looking at your content" and "I endorse this content." We need two different ways to signal the difference between the two.

wallace.bsky.social
Just realized I have not had a single drop of water today. Only coffee. I don't feel drier or anything, but maybe that's because my brain is slowly shutting down
