I played everything. And I’m four decades in on martial arts. I benefited and got scars both. But that’s not the point here. The point is that was permanent and done without thought. Trans stuff is neither. So peeps need to chill.

Exactly. That’s the point. And I don’t think most parents give sports injuries a second’s thought. It’s just…fine. Or if they do, it’s acceptable. But there are no hoops. At all. And perhaps there should be a few. If for no other reason than to make them think.

'So stay with me here, but fun ballet fact: part of the reason you're supposed to start ballet young is so you stretch and hold your joints in certain ways regularly enough that your body grows different. You know how men who do ballet look only sort of muscular but then like lift a whole ass person? Their muscles are trained to lie flat like that for flexibility, they don't bulk up. Girl in your class who always stands in turnout? It's likely not just habit, her joints probably sit like that now....

I started ballet when I was six and stopped after three years. I then took a break for three years, and came back and did jazz ballet (which has most of the same body mods but without turnout) and tap for another couple of years. And every physio who works on my body looks at my feet, hips and calves and goes 'oh you danced'. I was never even flexible enough to do the splits, but you best believe I stand in turnout. I never went en pointe, but I'm 95% sure tap is the reason why my feet have random spasms if I don't take to them with a tennis ball once a week.' [continued on next image.]

'When I said I wanted to be a dancer at six years old, adults took that to mean I'd want certain permanent alterations to my body. Unlike with young trans kids, no one was looking to make sure I fully understood what I was getting into. And unlike with young trans kids, these changes were not reversible when I changed my mind. There wasn't even a way to delay things to buy time (like puberty blockers), it was all or nothing. If I wanted to be a professional dancer, my normal ass joints were a ticking timebomb.

So like ~cis opinion~, but I really don't have a lot of time for people getting feral about trans kids actually transitioning or going on blockers or even (when they're old enough for it to be relevant) hrt. Me "identifying" as a dancer at six years old was more physically impactful and less informed than if a six year old changed their name and grew their hair, but you don't see any of the adults in my life getting accused of child abuse.'

AND a lot of kids are forced into sports. With no thought given to what it’ll do to them. Permanent changes? Sure. Injury? That’s fine. Meanwhile, no one is forcing kids to transition. No parent wants to make their child’s life harder. And it’s done with therapy/not permanent.

So yeah. Good post.

Oof, that last repost. Sports have benefits. But they’re also super harmful to kids. There’s a billboard I used to see often for a pediatric orthopedic clinic that had a young baseball player on it and read: It’s not just the memories that last forever. And yeah. That.

Running has always been really hard for me. I ran hurdles in track, because I had good form and was fast-ish over short distances and thus could do well, but any distance? Forget it. I have done 5Ks and a half marathon now. I’m slow. I’ve done tris. I swim FAST. I bike medium. I run SLOW. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a nineteen year-old USAF ROTC cadet, I aced my PFT (maxed out everything 💪🏼), except my 1.5 - I don’t remember the times needed, but I failed the first time. And passing the second was tough for me.

This. Saying “women” here may seem nice, but it’s actually a form of othering. Making them a special class. Different. Not the same. And thus not necessarily getting the same rights. Pregnant people are PEOPLE. And they should have the same rights as all people - including bodily autonomy.

(I’m a dog lover. But I know not everyone is and that’s ok. I also acknowledge the risk of disease transmission. Cuz it’s my job. ;)

Today has been a hard day personally. Nothing earth-shattering. Just tough. Lost my cool at one point. Someone was a jerk. Etc. But I wore a hoodie when I walked the dogs! Sure, it was, like, 10 PM. But still. A hoodie! Finally! It won’t last, but it’s a tiny sliver of hope and joy.

Apparently it was on the radio when we were young? Comments taught me this. My Y&R story is my best friend had a daytime sitter in the summer when I was a kid. Over there a lot. She didn’t care what we did as long as we left her alone for Y&R. So.
