Living here on this absolute jewel of a planet. Thank you First Nations. PhD in sustainability, equity & health. Former policy adviser ALP & Greens. Banned from Greens 20 yrs ago by silly rule they’ve now gotten rid of, but still waiting for apology! …🙄

What lies beneath … the jewelled sea in my profile picture suffered a marine heatwave this year, there was an algal outbreak and most of the sea life died.

Four years ago bushfires burned through nearly half the island, now this.

We must change our way of life, no matter how hard it is to accept

Thanks for this, great analysis. we r looking at electricity system in Victoria, Australia - relatively ambitious but similar issues, too focused on corporations, using regional areas to generate power for cities thru large scale solar & wind, when much more could be provided through rooftop solar

Interesting discussion that still leaves some unanswered questions. I think we need to look a lot more at would we should do - collectively through government and as communities and individually in families and households. Part of it must be, as the panel said, regulating businesses

There were practically no women in the Senate till the 1990s. so yeah, in this case the boomers who Greg thinks have done enough harm and should bugger off are 90%+ men. Pity that he chose to make those remarks in relation to an older woman don’t you think?
valakay.bsky.social
The woman in question is in the US, apparently in good health and a progressive candidate, and 7 yrs younger than Bernie Sanders. The likely alternative is apparently a younger man. Women make up less than 30% of the Senate, and only about 10% of the over 77s in the Senate.

I don’t know where you live but there’s a whole lot of regular protests in Naarm/Melbourne that you’re welcome to come to and explain why we’re all useless and should bugger off
valakay.bsky.social
Older people, particularly older women, are the backbone of regular action on climate, on environment, on refugees and many other causes in Australia. I invite you to come to one of our protests and say that to our faces. seriously i mean it

Frustrates me that people (not necessarily you) don’t understand that this is an historically accurate view of how white men in colonial Australia understood the world & how Hastie/Abbott types still seem to want it to be
valakay.bsky.social
yeah wasn’t about the meme. more that she’s right about the
conservative white men who still believe in their god given right to rule the world so why criticise her
valakay.bsky.social
this commentary seems a bit sexist, given that it’s Vanstone vs Hastie

Two years on from the Voice referendum, I’m never going to forgive the Liberal Party for their cruel destruction of hopes of reconciliation for political point scoring. Dutton, Price, Hastie, Abbott, Credlin, and all weak, cowardly moderates who stood by and said nothing. A dark stain on Australia.

I feel bad because there are some really good people in the north, & it’s particularly awful for First Nations people who’ve done NOTHING to deserve this. But we in the south are fighting our own battles & have at least a chance of staying habitable with climate change. I’m sorry that’s so bleak
valakay.bsky.social
Sadly I think it’s a bit like the WW2 situation - it’s a big country & if the shit hits the fan, we might have to write some parts off. Some northern parts of this country may become uninhabitable with climate change but if most people there vote for their destruction, what can you do?

This is so bad it’s funny. Narky club bureaucrat really got miffed by this uppity sports star

The Govt has developed preliminary costs for the storage & disposal of #AUKUS high level nuclear waste. You’re not allowed to see what it is and the Senate is not being told either. The only thing we do know is that you’ll be paying for it. #FOI #auspol
AUKUS nuclear waste costs? Government: we know but we're not saying - Michael West
The Government has calculated preliminary costs for the treatment and storage of high-level radioactive waste from AUKUS submarines.

People seemed to like that earlier shot I posted of the red-rumped parrot about to have a drink at Lake Hattah. So, here's another - with his beak in the water 🙂

Apparently e-bikes may have killed three pedestrians in NY, according to latest figures I could find. It’s not good, but if Rick Reilly is worried about it, I could tell him about something that kills many more

looks good - I always felt with the big trans fights on twitter (when I used to be on it) that there were people in the background egging it on for their own purposes.

Yes they were brilliant. ❤️ I like your name too- I used to read Fay Weldon a lot, she’s very acerbic and funny but I haven’t read Praxis - have to see if the library can get it
