It's about time Strange Days finally begins getting the retrospective love and respect it deserves. To me, it's the best pre-Matrix cyberpunk film other than Blade Runner and Robocop, and still better than most cyberpunk films made since.

30 years ago, Katherine Bigelow made a sci-fi flop that changed her career for the better
Strange Days is a noir-soaked science-fiction thriller set against a backdrop of racial tension, police brutality, sexual assault, and disruptive tech

"a memorandum expanding his administration’s authority"

The phrasing you're looking for is that he's suspending parts of the Constitution by decree.

President Trump on Wednesday signed a memorandum expanding his administration’s authority to repurpose unspent federal funds to pay members of the military during the government shutdown, escalating his challenge to the authority of Congress on spending matters.
Trump Signs Memo Expanding His Authority to Spend Federal Money
The president gave Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wide authority to repurpose funds to pay members of the military without approval from Congress, which has the sole constitutional authority to decide federal spending.

ICE arrested comedian Robby Roadsteamer for singing a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” in a Jeffrey Epstein the Giraffe costume outside their facility.

He sings “If you hate brown people / and you are a Nazi” and ICE thugs grab him and drag him into detention. No violence—just speech.

Trump is “creating a media monopoly in order to keep himself in power...the larger pattern, not just TikTok...we have seen countless media companies like the coming under control of right-wing oligarchs. We have seen constant pressure on the press, new rules from the Pentagon...”

He's defending them because he agrees with them. He knows 20-40 year olds are not "kids who made a mistake". He's playing it down because he sees nothing wrong with what they said.

NEW @motherjones.com: Nobody in that GOP group chat praising Hitler or making racist comments was a “kid,” as JD Vance claimed today

I tracked down their ages. (Weirdly, it seems nobody else did.)

Eight of the 11 in the group chat range from 24 to 35. Ages of others are unclear.

But… no “kids”!
No one in the GOP Hitler chat was a "kid"
We checked. Sorry, JD Vance.

"Polanski slammed” reports the Daily Express. The person doing that “slamming” is, err, Daily Express journalist Carole Malone.

And the reason? Because I want us to follow a science led public health approach to regulate drug use.

UPDATE: Following the firing of the director of the student newspaper, Indiana University has now cut the print edition of the newspaper entirely.

Indiana University cuts IDS print entirely, hours after firing student media director
By IDS staff
Oct 15, 2025 1:23 pm · Updated Oct 15, 2025 1:23 pm

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our newspaper. Upon pushback, the university fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision.

Media School Dean David Tolchinsky sent the order to IDS leadership in an email responding to its appeal that the school not censor the newspaper. And the dean attributed the decision to “the campus.” He has not yet responded to a message for clarification.

The new ICE song by Jesse Welles nails it.

ICE isn’t recruiting heroes, it’s recruiting the bitter, the rejected, the ones desperate for a badge to cover their failures.

Losers with power become the most dangerous kind.

for sure, in certain circumstances, eg if reform were polling high in one region, then I would vote pragmatically if it would stop them.

But, I know that in order to counter reform in 29 we need a party with a plan. And whether I fully believe it or not, there seems to be only one on offer.
vadkakukk.bsky.social
True, we might not get another chance. If reform win in 2029 there may be no more SP. So it is imperative that we have a plan to act between 2026 and 29.

SNP seem to have a plan, but you don't trust it.

I don't know anyone else who is likely to be in charge who has a different one though.

Do you?

From what I've seen, the Scottish parliament is a controlled environment where we call them out and show them for what they are. If they weren't in the SP, we'd have to argue with them in the chaos of social media.
vadkakukk.bsky.social
They obviously don't have the right leadership. Otherwise we wouldn't have people second guessing them and coming up with their own solutions. But it does seem to be the only leadership going at the moment.

and your last sentence is just childish.
vadkakukk.bsky.social
right, because the Scottish Parliament is the main source of unionist misinformation.

Yes, I think it's better to have a majority SNP government with a majority of 1, than a coalition of minority parties each with their own agendas.
vadkakukk.bsky.social
Well there does need to be an agenda. Someone needs to be in charge. If we just have groups of people making up their own fantasy solutions we're not going to get anywhere.
