I fully understand your anger and have felt angry a lot myself. I find anger is something I can't live in all the time or I start having physical issues.

I try to focus on how to be persuasive with the people in my life on masking. In part, because that is where I think I might make a difference.
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
I still have a lot of people who offer to mask up when they see I'm masked. I really think the biggest issue isn't compassion, it's social pressure. And, frankly, trauma.

Lots of folks are uncomfortable doing anything that reminds them of how scared they felt at the beginning of Covid.

ICE wears gaiters, not respirators. And they also carry guns. People are capable of telling the difference.

remigrate is not a dog whistle, and is open nazi language
Remigration

Not to be confused with Return migration.
Remigration is an originally European far-right proposal of ethnic cleansing[1] via the mass deportation of non-white immigrants and their descendants, sometimes including those born in Europe, to their place of racial ancestry.[2][3] It is popular especially within the Identitarian movement.[4][5] Some proponents of remigration suggest excluding some persons with non-European background from such a mass deportation, based on a varyingly defined degree of assimilation into European culture.[6][7][8]

We had this happen with a business that had their alarm go off on a day they were closed. And no one could get a hold of the owner/manager to get it turned off. Earplugs did not alleviate my desire to set their building on fire.

Omg, the poor woman who called the cops thinking they would help. Jesus.

Dogs don't deserve to be hurt by our human bullshit. Most people get this, even if they can't see past their prejudices and copaganda when it comes to other human beings. And people love their pets and can empathize with the pain of the owners in this situation.

I'm not trying to win an argument, just adding information. Not really thinking in terms of scoring goals, tbh.

But this is social media, so I understand that type of conversation is anathema 🤷
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
Not really. Rhinovirus transmission has pretty predictable transmission patterns throughout the year. Surges due to new variants once every month or two aren't the norm. But if you have other data, happy to see it.

Leadership is when you pay consultants to tell you what to say. Who are they to argue with the focus groups?
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
I didn't take offense! I was actually agreeing with you and trying to add on. But I clearly missed the mark with how I said it. Apologies!
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
There isn't a consistency in the rate of spread with Covid, which is part of the CDC's definition for an endemic disease.
Hell, we have two overlapping surges from two different Covid strains happening right now.
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
Regardless of what term you want to use, Covid is not acting like other diseases that we label as endemic. There aren't somewhat predictable surges in infection rates that happen once or twice a year. Instead, we get new surges every one or two months with a lot of overlap.
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
As the article notes, Hanage is using his own definition of endemic. It isn't a settled discussion among epidemiologists at all.

The reason being that we have unpredictable surges caused by new strains that often result in much higher than baseline levels of infection.

There are thousands of studies showing the long term health risks to people posed by COVID-19.

Any rational person would look at this data and pause for thought.

I think we aren’t doing that because we aren’t very rational at the moment.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

This is how sexists have treated women for forever. I suspect it may not be losing inhibitions as much as knowing he can get away with it. Notice that none of the men spoke up. They seem to be fine with it.
untilwemeetagain.bsky.social
FYI: A virus that constantly spawns new immune-evasive strains that results in regular surges in infection rates is not "endemic". That term refers to diseases that are well established but also stable, so immunity prevents surges. That is not where we are with Covid at all.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

There is no "joking" way to say Nazi shit.
They say it because they mean it.
And we should stop letting them pretend its "just a joke"

We have been. That's what the mask bans have been for a lot of folks. Even with medical exceptions, the bans invite harassment and discrimination.

Many people are just fine with disabled people never being able to leave their homes or being forced into institutions. Covid really made that obvious.

This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:
Good afternoon, Marisa.
Please see the below from DHS on the 13-year-old alien.
Please feel free to direct any questions to them.
Respectfully,
James

The biggest challenge is convincing people that things could be different and that their actions matter.
