yeah so if you see someone shoplifting you didn’t see anything. also if you follow them outside and see a Trump sticker on their car you didn’t threaten to turn them in if they didn’t give you the goods. and you didn’t bring them to the community fridge later

how do you know what you 'got away with', you're not going to get an error from grep just incorrect results (which you'll only know are incorrect when you use an actual CSV parser)

but go ahead and parse multiline formats with a line based tool, at least you won't be pedantic!

since you can't know what it's "like" without parsing it properly, you use a proper CSV parser, not something that will mistakenly think each line is a new record

'grep is wrong for CSVs' is uncontroversial, just like 'grep is wrong for JSON'

grep is the wrong tool for CSVs for the obvious reason that it's line based and CSVs in fact are not (viz escaped line breaks)
