Happy October! Let’s try this again and see if you can see the teaser to my latest short OFRENDA, which is apparently so scary Bluesky doesn’t want you to see it! #filmsky #scriptsky

Hollywood Has a Major AI Hype Problem

While he’s probably a weaker actor than the other protagonists, he’s certainly stronger than the lead of Cat, which mistakenly focuses on “random dude” instead of Karl Malden, who was clearly supposed to be the lead but maybe cost too much? Def best camera work though. Some of Argento’s best.

If I buy the 4K of F1 will that convince Apple to release 4Ks of TRAGEDY OF MACBETH and NAPOLEON? Because I want those more and I’ll do it if it gets me closer to owning those.

I already own the Italian 4K of KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON. #filmsky

Upon a rewatch, I’ve discovered that FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET is my favorite of Argento’s Animal trilogy and while I always liked them all, this is a complete flip on where it placed on an initial watch. Maybe I’m just a sucker for the Severin 4K but this one rocks! #filmsky

Movie gag that will ALWAYS work on me:

“There’s no way going to _____”

Hard cut to them doing _____.

You get the sense that TRM was King going “okay… Well my dour serious one didn’t sell. What if I do a pulpy version?” But then it was still too mean and dour to sell.

Can relate.

Man, that NIN score really, as the kids used to say, slaps in IMAX surround sound. #filmsky

I think of the “Hi doggy” scene in THE ROOM as a scene with only instrumental value (Johnny needs flowers) so he just buys flowers. There’s no set up, struggle/conflict, character moments (despite him being her favorite). It’s guilty of the same sin countless blockbusters fall into.

Me too. Especially for REC since a lot of the news stuff couldn’t be improved to begin with.

Hey, I have half the amount of followers on Insta yet my reel of the OFRENDA teaser got 10x the amount of views and responses that I did here. Can we try and generate some more buzz so that I can take that energy back into the editing room? #filmsky #filmmaking #scriptsky

I’m curious to see which ones actually have full scripts. Frequently, it sounds like they opt for detailed outlines.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
People confuse easier to execute on a technical level with easier to execute on a dramatic/creative level. A found footage film is easier to make. But it’s arguably harder to make a good found footage film.

PIRANHA 2 is exactly the film you expect when you hear that James Cameron was allowed to do all the pre-production/re-writes/location scounting/VFX planning only to be fired by the director of TENTACLES so he could takeover. #filmsky

Here’s my take: scene structure matters infinitely more than the structure of the script as a whole. If your scenes have intention, character/theme development and feel rewarding in and of themselves, people will want to keep watching. Otherwise, it’s an extended trailer/wiki summary.

So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
It’s a great set of a great movie! Get it especially because, if I recall correctly, it never had a bluray. So it’s this or DVD, which doesn’t do it justice.

Heads up to my fellow physical media enjoyers, the 4K UHD disc of “The Limey” is temporarily available via Lionsgate Limited’s online store. This looks like the last remaining stock from when this was a Best Buy exclusive. It has been unavailable for years up to this point. So jump on it!
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
Agreed. Though his work as DP and director can’t compare to his collaborations with Larry Fong. I wish they’d get back together.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
Mel Brooks’ best film and mandatory viewing. Especially now that you’ve seen the primary influences! That he dropped it and Blazing Saddles the same year is insane.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
Watching this was revelatory because so many Young Frankenstein gags suddenly made sense.

Outside of the REC franchise, I think I’ve only seen Veronica. Which was well made, stylish and ultimately a fairly standard supernatural movie.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
SAW V starts with a pit and pendulum kill and is directed by a guy named HACKL. This is why we movies. #filmsky
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
I thought how interesting it must be that Paco Plaza is working on this one and going in a vastly different direction yet his contributions to the genre with REC seem to define/inspire over half of the entries in this franchise.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
I’d say this one has fewer mild disappointments than many in the franchise. It’s like grabbing a fistful from the candy bowl and only getting one thing of candy corn.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
I’ll let you know when I give it a look!
